Ive flown my extreme a couple times this morning and noticed while in a hover that im getting a Raptor type woof in my blades...i havnt crashed this bird,im using two double white dots on each side....it seems to do it at all headspeeds 1550,1750 and 1800.....stationary hover the blades go out of track a little bit and i start hearing the woof, pump the collective just a tad and it goes away....hover a few more seconds and it comes back.Im totally confused as to why this just started all of the sudden. Please help!!!!!!

Maybe thrust bearings?

brand new thrust bearings

Thrust bearings need grease?
Bent blade axle? Even thou you have not crashed it. It is possible it is bent. What your describing of the blades going in and out of track sounds like bent blade axle or thrust bearings.
The blade axle is easy to check. Take one blade off, the other blade have it straight out. Then take an allen wrench and turn the axle by the bolt on the end that has no blade. If the tip of the blade that is straight out moves up and down, the axle is bent. Thrust bearing problems will only show up when flying the model basically.

thanks david...ill try checking the blade axle for trueness and regrease the thrust bearings.

Also what brand of blades are you running? We have seen problems with some blades that where aft C.G. and or off is balance.

I also agree with David. Some blades can amplify this problem.

I have MAH G2s on right now but noticed it first flight with the VBlades.I tried switching blades to remedy the problem.

Very odd Vance. Your is actually the 1st I have ever heard about in the extreme head.

Let us know what you find fixes it.

The last time I mentioned thrust bearing installed backwards I was hammered pretty hard in a PM by the posting person so I won't mention it here.

You are right Bob. I somehow got mine in backwards (one with larger hole out) on one side of my Ion-X recently when I rushed to get it finished before BlackSheep. The blades did exactly what Vance is seeing. I am also flying the MAH G2 blades which from what I have seen have a fairly aft CG.

Thanks for not mentioning it. ;)

Marcus voodoo doll....now thats funny,i dont care who you are  im leaning towards the grease myself, ill pull the grips and regrease them at the field later today.I replaced the dampeners at IRCHA SE and one of the thrust bearings fell out of the grips,i wiped it off and shoved it back in and dont remember greasing it first.

Your flying is definitely coming along Vance!! YEA BABY!!

Vance,
I will agree with what Bob suggested also. I didn't think about the thrust bearings possibly being in backwards. Bob has a great point. Make sure the smaller ID thrust race is towards the outside. See that happen a few times and it is easy to do when putting a head back together.

I don't think grease on the thrust bearings would do it. I have also been in the camp of installing those backward. Anyway, something definitely is not right.

It has been a while Vance and I know you live where you can fly all over the place!! You must be flight testing. ;)

If you havent touched the thrust bearings in the head, check to make sure you dont have any play in your links. Too loose of links, will cause flutter. It did on my old Evo 50 I had. The collective rocked back and forth a little. Make sure no bolts have come loose and there isnt any balls rocking on screws or anything like that. If everything is tight, take out the thrust bearings and regrease them. Also check to make sure your grip bearings arent notchey. They should be sikly smooth vance. No rough spots AT ALL. My Evo fluttered like a SOB after I had crashed it. Bought new bearings and it flew like an Extreme should. :) Good luck Vance. Keep up the good flying and dont let Rodney break your fingers or anything. :smokin:

I'm going to hold my breath until Vance lets us know what's going on with his "woof". :?

well.....checked thrust bearings and they were installed properly...needed grease so i greased them.....checked blade axle and it was straight....installed new main shaft and test flew.....blades still going out of track......think Rodney spotted the problem though, the swash had ALOT of play in it...lossened the set screws and squezzed the inner and outer rings together and found one of the holes for the set screw was stripped....even with squeezing it back together though it still had play.....keep in mind that this swash is one of the old black ones.....got a new swash comming in the morning with Rodney.....i hope this solves the problem. :arggg:

Problem solved guys.....it was definately the swash causing the "woofs"...installed a new swash Saturday morning in Mulberry and the problem went away.
