So I stopped by my office on my way to the airport to find my two 3300 Zippy's had arrived AND my Futaba Transmitter Lipo as well. Not sure what I'm more excited about, a LIPO for my Tx so I'm not having to dick around with the stock Nicad anymore or the Zippy's!

They're bigger then I expected, could be interesting trying to get these buggers in the Gaui canopy without any 'mods' but we'll see. They are thinner than the Pro-Teks but longer and taller as well; all of which was known and to be expected but once I get back from this trip the moment of truth will arrive and could be interesting!

So how do you all normally mount these, two on top in tandem, one on top and one on bottom at an angle or??? And for the record they made it in one week from Hong Kong. :cheers

Happy Flying!

FWIW, amainhobbies pulled the 3000mAh Pro Tek's from their sales list and they aren't even showing as a backordered or out of stock item. I've emailed them to find out what's up, but no response yet.

wow, Drew! Glad you got yours, mine only just shipped today from Hobby City... Not sure why they took so long. They showed back in stock like Tuesday last week, but call after call, they kept telling me, "your order is in the print queue"... whatever that means.

Anyway, they are on the way and I'm on vacation anyway. So, should be there when I get home in a couple days. I'm really excited to see how the flight time differs from my APUFF 2200's from flying-hobby.

I will let you all know as soon as I do!

Are these the $41 ZIPPY-H 3300mAh 3S1P 20-30C ones.. 20C?
Is 20C enough for the EP550? I thought I saw a post somewhere saying that for the EP550, you should be going for >= 25C...
I'm running a Z20 980Kv... would these die pretty quick with that, or is it worth the $41?

It's worth the $41. 25C if you only run 2200mAh capacity packs. Up at the 3000mAh+ range, 20C should be fine with the motor you are running as long as you don't over discharge them. You should have no problem getting solid/conservative 6 min flights and a long life with them.

I have a set of Zippy 3300's on my Z20that show to hold voltage and perform as good if not better than 3300 25c polyquest. I am very happy with them...if they last a decent amount of time.

20c on 3300 is capable of 66 amps.....25c on 2500 is capable of 62.5 amps.....I think that's where the 25c is coming in...lots of people were trying to use 2200 or 1800 20c packs...theycan only put out 44 & 36 amps respectively. many of the kits were sold as "package deals" with 18c 1800 - 2200 mah lipos.

25c 2500 or below in minimum....as you get more mah....you get more power behind it...so the 3300 20c zippy's are fine.

Everyone is having very good luck with them.

Not sure how the math works for the Pro-Tek 3000 packs for overall Amp draw but they should be close as well. Hell the MAX my Gaui 1100kv motor can put out is 50 amps anyway so unless you're using a really 'taxing' setup and flying super advanced 3D you're more than likely going to be fine. Hot day, one punch-up after another with 5 minutes of nothing but stall turn practice aaahh....

Happy Flying!

this is how i mount mine without any mods... i put velcro on the top and bottom where the battery touches and use the straps to hold it in place and ive had no problems with that

but im still waiting for mine :/

20c 3300 packs are rated for 66amps constant discharge.
If thats what they are should be just right.

Not sure how the math works for the Pro-Tek 3000 packs for overall Amp draw

capacity * C rating / 1000 = amps

For example:

25C 2200 mAh = 2200 * 25 / 1000 = 55 amps
20C 3300 mAh = 3300 * 20 / 1000 = 66 amps

So for the Pro-Tek 3000's I bought they're as follows:
20C 3000 mAh = 3000 * 20 / 1000 = 60 amps
I also use G-Force 20 C - 2250's so that would be:
20C 2250 mAh = 2250 * 20 / 1000 = 45 amps
I'd better take it easy with these batteries so it seems and get only 25-30C T-Rex sized batteries from here on out...

Y'all ever seen this before; Hobby City shipping from within the US of A out of Ohio. Same pack as one they're selling out of Hong Kong only $37.65 instead of the HK for $36.40. Interesting...

For a T-Rex sized battery the best deal of the bunch seems to be the Loong-Max 25C, 2250 for $30 but it only ships out of Hong Kong WHEN they ever have them...

I'm sure you have stuff delivered anyway....unless she reads the label....she'll just think it's another work item....

Unless she hears you "jumping up & down" in your office and immeadiately set the heli on your desk and start working on it....:happyd

Me too ! been with mine since we were 15 yrs old...(45 yrs) she even helped me build my first heathkit radio....

Now that she retired....I can't spend as much on helicrack as I might like to, but I build a few models for the local hobby shop and get a break on certain items....so that helps.

That and the fact I use paypal and I currently pay the bills....

Thsi week we have 3 items coming.....new blades...(tower)....new tail parts (Helidirect) and new charger..(BPP hobbies)...just hope they don't ALL come the same day or I might be giving "foot rubs" for the weekend !! (like xomby or drew, forget which one). Actually might be better if they do come togehter....just get it over at one time....!!

lol... my wife and I first met in high school... she even dated a good friend of mine briefly... years later we met again... been stuck with me since...

funny how you built a heathkit radio.. I built a heathkit computer.. Z80.. back before DOS was thought of...and bill gates was still in school learning to become a billionaire

funny how you built a heathkit radio..

was a 3 channel r/c radio...flew it in a falcon 56 with a mCoy 35...had to get an Ace conversion kit for it....the radio had two sticks on the front....right stick only moved left-right.....left stick moved up-down with throttle on the back. Ace had a gimbal conversion that put rudder/elevator on the right stick....that was slick...

When we wanted to reverse servos, we had to unsolder and resolder the two wires on the pot....or the motor.....made you think really hard before building something....but it was fun...and I wouldn't give up my DX7 for anything...

HAHA, I love these boards. I just finished reading the last several posts to my wife. She feels like she's famous! Well, her feet are at least!

Actually, we are on vacation and we've been so busy doing fun family vacation stuff, she's not gotten her daily "foot-rub" for a couple of days. I will have to fix that in a few.

Mystic, interesting how you knew your wife in High-school. Exactly the same for my wife and I. We both dated other people during highschool, and didn't hook up until a year or so AFTER we graduated (way back in 1984!!) She's been stuck with me now since 1986! ... and it gets better and better and better for her every year!;)

My new zippys arrived yesterday too.

A bit of advice, hopefully sharing this will help me remember and not do it a third time (did the same thing to one of my kongs).

If you're cutting the connector off a battery, cut one wire at a time. Unless you like the light show, melted wire cutter, and battery that will no longer balance right that results from cutting both at once.

mysticmead
07-09-2008, 11:23 AM
why would you be cutting the connector off? if you are doing that in order to put on a different connector, just order the HXT (Hextronic) brands from hobby city instead of the Zippy's.. great batteries and they come with no connector
