What is everyone using and what is your experience with it?
Right now I am using:
Stock motor 14 pole 800 KV
CC 80 Speed controller
15/16tooth pinion.
I see on Rcgroups people are using the Kora motors Kora 15-14, very hard to find, and a bit pricey at $134 us

stock motor
Jazz 40
15t
2x 3s 2200 kp's
motor runs very hot on 6s, but according to Corrado its nothing to be worried about. i've already gotten over it. i'd like to have a cool runner, but i'm not going to drop 100-130$ for it.

stevehonn, what kind of headspeed/throttle curve are you running? 75% on the Jazz gov is giving me 2750 hs, which is way more than i need right now. i'm going to cut it back to 65% and see how the motor/esc does heat wise.

I'm running around 90% straight line throttle curve, headspeed is around 2700rpm, running 100% throttle curve eads to severe tail vibration as its around 3000rpm which is too much, the timer is set for 5 minutes at the moment but last flight I got carried away and took 2308mAh out of my TP pack.

Stock motor.
Flightpower 6S1 2500 evo25
Jazz 80 on 70% governor.
Time 5:15 - 5:30.
70% is what i started with and still use, sounded and felt right from the beginning, no bogging and everything felt warm but not hot.
Flies very nice, when the weather allows me.
having a wet summer over here, could not fly the whole week :(
Maybe tomorrow..

Stock Motor 800KV, 1100W
e-Flite 60 Amp Pro ESC
15T Pinion but I also have the 16T
BTW: When did they stop shipping it with the 18T?
I am a little worried about the battery-pack though.
It's a Thunder Power Extreme 4S 3300mAh
How's everyone's opinion on that?
It didn't go up in the air yet,
I am still sitting down building it.

JoergW,
I think that the battery you plan to use is too small. Using the headspeed calc it puts your head speed at 1700-1800 RPM. For this heli ideal head speed seems to be 2400-2800. IMO, with a 4s and either one of those pinions it would feel like you were flying in jello. If I have this wrong, someone please correct me.
I just got my protos up and running yesterday and tach'd my head at about 2850 (no pitch, on the ground). I didn't have my throttle curve set right so I don't have good hover data yet...but I'm going out today in a few hours and will check it.

Yep You're right.
I had the 15T pinion on there first and it flew nice but the headspeed was just too low.
With the 16T it's slightly better but not where I want it.
But the main thing is that the maiden flight went well.
I had some vibration but I checked the balance of the blades and they were out of balance.
Should have done this right away...:arggg:
How are you doing with your 5S?
Just curious, cause I am going to 6S anyway :)

I'm really happy with 5s. i tried it with 6s for a couple of hovers before my 5s packs came in the mail and 6s was screaming. didn't tach it but it just sounded way wrong. it was like "ludicrous speed"!!!! All I had was the 18T pinion so I had to lower my throttle curve to almost 50% to get 2700 RPM (the ESC didn't like that at all).
But 5s definitely sounds and feels just right. still havent done much full blown flying yet though (its sort of windy today).
you should get about the same effect with 6s and the 15T pinion.
