View Full Version : Creeping Servo

I'm trying to set the limits on my tail servo (3154), and when I adjust the 'travel adjust' in my Tx (DX7) to avoid binding, on the side I adjust the travel the servo slowly creeps back to center. For example (and to try to clear things up) if I adjusted to travel adjust in my Tx to 87% for right rudder, and I give it right rudder after I made the adjustment, when I let go of the rudder stick, it takes 2 or 3 seconds for the servo to return to center. The reason I'm using travel adjust on the Tx instead of limits on the gyro is because my cheap chinese gyro has no limits adjustment :DOH. I'm beyond confused.

I set my limits with my gyro (2100t) and it creeps around like that on the bench but not in the air. Don't know why either.:dontknow

I would assume your tail servo is 'creeping' due to the gyro being in heading hold mode while setting the limits. Minute vibrations reaching the gyro are detected by it and it tries to compensate for these, causing the servo creep you mention. If you switch it to rate mode while setting the limits, you will not see this behaviour.
As for the travel adjustments on your radio: I am under the impression that you should only adjust your ATVs to adjust your pyro rate, not the limits of your tail servo. A decent gyro (such as the 2100) will allow you to configure the limits on the gyro. If you have a gyro which does not have this feature, I think you will need to move the ball on the servo horn closer to the center, which limits the travel for the link and should allow you to get rid of the binding. I do not think you will succeed in getting rid of your binding issue by modifying the ATVs on your radio.
Btw. I am pretty new at this myself. Can someone confirm or correct my statements above?

Don't use travel adjust in the radio to adjust binding/travel - that is done in the gyro.
Travel adjust/end points adjust the piro rate.
Get the 2100T gyro. It works as it was made for this little heli. :)

If you can't adjust your limit with your gyro then you'll have to do it with the linkage and control arm.

Okay. I'll try that. Thanks for all the suggestions guys :).
