give it a shot...the worst that could happen is that you crash and destroy your hurri...make sure you have some sort of protective shield between you and the tail during testing though..

Marco,
My guess is that no-one has seen the need as simpler designs work (except the Guai one it seems :) ). i was also worried about how much weaker you would make the tail shaft - don't forget that these things rotate at up to 20,000rpm on some smaller helis.
Cheers,
Mike.

of course a video needs to be running...if a high speed video camera is available... that need to be used as well... cause stuff flying apart in slow motion is cool

i hope it works cause it feels beautiful :YeaBaby:.cracked me right that my bro gives me a brand new cnc and the first post i read is skigolfmikes.......tho can't remember the guys name but he was right on the money with the missing shim on the gaui thrusted tail .if thrust bearings first you need a id shim between them if its on the outside an od one.youi then red loctite the screw to set the tension. its possible that locking the bolt screw ya know what i mean hard into the hub is what caused his tail failure

Take off all parts not needed during the test, then bolt the heli down (really well) to a table and get to a safe place where you or anyone else can't get hurt by exploding tail bits (if that should happen).. then fire the beast up full blast and mash the rudder back and forth to see what happens lol. :wow2::Bang
*uhm.. disclaimer lol.. i'm not responsible if you create a worm hole or wipe out life forms on this planet or any other based on the suggestion.

i was just thinking of getting the ex to hold it next time she comes over to ***** at me. hold it just a little bit higher..........:) i'm trying to bang up a rig that mimics a tail set up that i can power up with my dremel.then i can test it up to 30,000 rpm....found my titanium twrecks spindle and refined it all a bit.

finally found a use for one of the tailchopper(sjm) parts.made the tail fin way more rigid.and check it out........twin fin :wow2: if one don't work try two

the gaui cnc tails actually running really nicely at the moment.if you put a shim between the radial and thrust bearing so the small holed thrust washer only contacts the inner race of the radial bearing you can use the bolt to set the tension (with shitloads of red loctite to keep it set) it pulls the grip right down on to its brass bush in its base that locates on the hub and locks it right in there.there's only a few thou gab between the grip and the hub and its smooth as.....shaved even :P .one of the good things with the one i'm building is that you can set up all the bearings shims thrust tension etc get it all smooth as then strap the actual grip on around it

I like th use of the SJM tail to the GAUI fin... now.. if GAUI or anyone could make a tail that was a slop free and strong as the SJM tail... but make it for the GAUI... that would be the best upgrade ever..
I was REAL close to getting a SJM 500 a few months back... then they pulled them from the shelves..and are just now getting the new version in stock..I might get one some day.. just to have an exotic

just got sick of looking at it so put a single bearing on it grabbed the bearing in some vice grips, shrink wrapped the output shaft of the 12v dremel and spun it up to 12000 rpm - cause the little sucker doesn't go any faster......no blades.smooth as  .......suppose i should pull the tail down and give it a go
