View Full Version : We need TT gear solution.

I know this isn't new news but, we need a TT gear solution. The recent shortage of TT gears only re-enforces the failure rate of the gears.

While I like the performance increase of the TT (SD) Gaui 200 the gears are much too fragile for people like myself which I believe constitutes the majority of Gaui 200 owners. The slightest tail rotor strike will strip one, two or all of the TT gears.

Surely with the collective ingenuity, resources and knowledge found on HeliFreak someone out there has the ability to machine news gears for this thing. Steel, Brass, Derlim whatever there is availible has got to be better than the brittle material Gaui is using.

I realize that Gaui is making a small fortune on the see-saws and TT gears so I seriously doubt there is much of an incentive for them to make stronger parts. That being said, I'm asking those of you that have the knowledge, equipment and skill to help all of out by producing new gears for our prized but faulty Gaui 200 SD.

I'm in the middle of building mine and was wondering the same dang thing. Seeings how it appears the SD has been discontinued (only the 200 belt drive version exists on Gaui's site now and it was there not too long ago), parts for it are going to be harder to come by. That's my guess anyway. I know when I ordered mine, I tried to order a stock of gears as well but RH was out of stock on some. I guess I'll keep looking. Upgrade parts would be the hot ticket. Metal gears would be too expensive, harder plastics shouldn't be too bad. Maybe boiling the stock gears for 5 min. is the trick. I've read that it makes some plastics more durable.

What are the two versions officially called anyway?? "H200" & "H200SD"? "SE" & "SD"?? It would be nice to know so we all can clearly communicate this. I know the printed manual I got with mine covers both. It identifies "SD" (TT, Shaft Drive, whatever) parts with "H200SD" preceding the description.

BTW, Anyone know of an electronic version of this manual? (H200SD)

Happy flying!

I know one thing, you can shim the shaft out some and get a much better engagement on the tail gears.

Are you stripping the crown or the tail?

Mine isn't quite finished waiting on a replacement blade grip and crimps & pins so I can shorten the wires, but I got much better engagement with some shimming.

Had to order some crown gears from HK b/c no one in the US had any.

The tail gears break. I've had two sets break multiple teeth off. The Crown gear strips. The metal pinion shreds the teeth on the crown gear.

Well after hearing all the horror stories...
I did the shimming of the tail gear for the best mesh I can achieve.
Glued a small extension of .040" lexan to the tail fin (extending it 6mm). At rest it's still 3mm off the surface.
Raised the main gear 2.5mm
Put fuel tubing on the skids - good for another 1mm
Still need to see if I can get the wobble out of the crown gear...

Now with the tail fin bottomed out the blades are 13mm from the surface.

Hope this at least gives it half a chance.

You don't have to shim the tail gear. Slide the tailbox further onto the boom.

FWIW. I just ordered a bunch of spare gears from Flying-Hobby.com last night. They were all in stock and shows as shipped already.
