Hi guys,

IT'S HERE!

Man, what a little mechanical work of art!! I am even more amazed than I though I would be! Gorgeous little machine!! :banana

Well, so far, I have taken about 40 pictures of every possible angle of the rotor head, tail gearbox, and everything in between for future reference, in addition to starting a log book for the new bird!

I have removed the blade grips and inspected, loctited, and reinstalled them, they looked fine, and have loctited everything else I can find, there were a few loose bolts. Everything looks pretty good so far, mechanically.

Now, someone was suggesting that I either CA or epoxy the tail gearbox bearings in place? I guess that is to prevent them from spinning in the holes? Any tips on an easy way to do this, short of taking the entire box apart? And I guess I'll need to be VERY careful not to get CA in the bearings...I have some gel type that might work well to keep it from running everywhere.

What a sweet little heli!!

Oh, another quick question, should I assemble the servo links to the specs in the manual to begin with, to get them in the ballpark, or are they not accurate length specs?

Thanks guys!!

Glenn:lol:

The fun is starting now huh? You'll have to take the tailbox apart cause the flange bearings are installed from the inside. I use a toothpick and spread a little ca inside the hole where the bearing goes. Be very careful with the screws holding everything together you can strip them by just looking at them. The measurements for the links in the manual are good starting point. Enjoy your new obsession.

The stated lengths worked perfectly for me. The smallest threaded rod had to be shortened to be able to get it to be the stated length other than that everything worked perfectly.

Jetleaf, Piper,

Thanks for the suggestions, and recommendations! I guess I will get a crash course in how the belt and tailbox come apart and go together! I'll also be very careful with the torque on the screws.

The belt tension from the factory seems pretty good, I checked it and it will slip if the tail is turned while holding the rotor head...is this about right? But it takes some effort to get it to slip....the manual says it should slip just trying to turn the motor? That seems like it would be a bit too loose to me?

Thanks again guys! I'll be busy for a while now!

Buzz,

Thanks, I am already having fun, and I haven't even flown it yet!

Now, let me see about this tailbox...

congrats,
the only things i can add are to double check the nut that holds that whole tail on, and put a drop of ca on it.
I didnt find the lengths in the book 100% accurate, so about halfway down are my lengths:

Hope this helps,

I didn't bother dismantling the tailbox. If it is new, then there should be no lube between the CF plate and bearing yet. Just use a few drops of liquid CA on the outside of the bearing/CF interface (Not the Gap filler stuff but liquid)... capillary action will then send the CA right round the bearing, through the otherside and around that side of the bearing too. It worked fine for me like that.

Hey stoatnchips,

Thanks for the input, but I stayed up late last night and took the tailbox apart and CA'ed them in... I kinda cheated, I only took one side off of the box, and did that bearing off the tailbox, and pried the other bearing out of it's hole, and got some CA in there and reassembled everything. Should be OK..

I'm going to tackle the cyclic servos tonight, so expect some questions guys!!

Thanks all !!!

Littleman,

Thanks, it's always good to have several inputs, for comparison on setups...

I'm going to mount the servos tonight, we'll see how far I get before more questions arise!!

Peter,

Thanks for the welcome!

Yup, I am addicted, that's for sure! I have noticed my wallet getting thinner, and my lawn getting taller all the time!

The Gaui will be my 7th heli, and not my 8th, only because I got rid of one of my Blade CP Pros....no big loss there!

Thanks again for the welcome, I feel very accepted here!

This is a great forum, with really great people, don't know what I would do without it!
