View Full Version : Belt Tension

When I was flying this morning the tail rotor started having issues. I found that the belt had loosened because the tail boom had slipped. I am using a replacement metal boom. The four screws holding the boom are as tight as I dare turn them -- I don't want to strip the plastic threads. But, the boom moves as soon as I power up making the belt loose. Any suggestions for keeping the boom snug? I thought about putting a wrap of tape around the end of the boom, but I'm not sure there's room -- it's tight, but just not tight enough....

The boom I am currently using would not go tight, no matter how tight I made the screws. Like you I didn't dare tighten them any more. I simply put one wrap of sellotape, (thin clear tape), no overlap, around the end of the boom and the boom tightened perfectly. All has been well for weeks, so for me this has proved to be a perfectly adequate solution, hopefully it should work for you too.

Thanks, Sutty. I should have just gone ahead and tried the tape, but it's good to know that it will work!
