Hi,

I managed to crash my Hurricane last weekend, on my third hover training, see http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zKA8Sq55rYM and enjoy :).

I did order a lot of spare parts from Flying Hobby, but in my eager to get everything as fast as possible I happened to order the long tail boom, and now I realise that I had the shorter one before.

I have the Hurricane 550 CF edtion, and I'm now wondering if the long tail boom will impose any problems and if there will be any difference in the flying experience compared to the shorter one.

Thanks!

I put the longer boom on mine so I could use the 550mm blades. It makes it more stable for someone learning to fly. You will also need the 575 belt, everything else is the same.

Okay, I have the 500L blades, but I guess it will work fine with the long tail boom then...

You should have no problem what so ever.

If your tail servo is not boom mounted then you will also need the longer push rod.

Good catch, I went with the CNC mounts. Makes setup quicker.

Just chop the end off (the end that goes into the frame (without the locating hole for the tail case)) - I did it with a long one using a pipe cutter that I had for cutting plumbing pipe.

Cheers,
Mike.

the long boom works fine.. as long as you have the long belt too..

Yes I did order everything "long", boom, belt, etc. I just thought the flight experience might be different, but then I guess it's no problem!

Thanks!

after watching the video... I saw what looked like you dragging the training gear on the ground.. then as you stopped the FF it sort of fell apart.. based on what I saw in the video... take the training gear off. you can obviously take off straight up.. and if you are starting to move into a little FF then it's time to drop the extra weight. it will NOT save you in a crash

If you want some extra "security" for your landings then get some Trex 600 or Raptor 30 landing gear - much wider an dlonger than the std 550 stuff that is a bit small

After a recient crash I needed a short boom and happened to have a long boom that had been in an earler crash and was bent at the location where it attached to the frame. I just cut it off using my band saw and was back in business in no time.
