I tried the 15 thought it was too much... I like the 14.....never tried the 13....on a plastic frame you might not have the room for a 13...the motor will touch the frame.

try the 14 then go up or down if you don't like it.

I was using the 14t on the Gaui 1100kv stock supplied motor. I just received the Z20 yesterday with a another box of parts to include a CHP frame but I dont have the servos for that frame. So I will save those for another shopping trip.
So the 14t.. Ok thanks.

I guess we all have different opinions.. so your responses will vary.

Here's my take:

The 13 was wayyy soft for my taste. It was fine for hovering and basic FF and some stall turns, slow rolls.. but not much more than that. The heli didn't feel responsive and rolls and flips were slow, even at 100% flat out.

The 14T was better, but still was not what i was looking for and it felt "weak" pushing out of inverts and "heavy" doing loops. Should be fine for scale or FF, but don't expect to push it much more than that.

The 15T was MUCH better and could do some tail slides, aileron tic tocs etc. A 15T is a good pinion for sport flight. You can throttle curve it up or down a bit with S1, S2 based on how you want to fly, and that flexibility is nice. You can make it fly like a 14T if you like by the flip of a switch or have more power when you need it.

The 16T HS was right in there for me, but would bog out bad if i hammered the collective hard with the pitch set at -11 +10.5.. so I adjusted pitch range down to -10 +9.5 and that helped to keep the speed more consistent, but it does require careful collective management to keep things smooth at speed. It is much harder on the packs than the 15T, but I'd rather have shorter flights (3:50) and more snap. I might be the only one flying the z20 980 with a 16T cuz most of the posts i've seen here are of folks running the 13T-15T.

I guess the z30 has spoiled me heheh, but it's a good heli crack kinda spoilin'! :)

Try a few pinions out to see what you like and what kind of times you get based on your flying style. They are a pain to swap out (and get the mesh right) so you might want to start with the 14T and then try the 15T next if you need more. Everyone prefers different setups and flying styles.

True that for sure. I will start with the 14 tooth till I get the rest of my set up.

good move, I think you'll like it...besides..then you only have to make one change....either up or down 1. if you start with the 13....then go the 14....you'll never know what the 15 would do until you try it....

14 will give you about 1800 in normal and 2000 to 2100 in IU depending on your TC;s.

at least tha's what my eagletree says...of course blade type, battery's all play into that equasion.

So I used the 14t this morning and found it to be similular to the stock Gaui 1100kv motor and 14t pinion.
But I got a little over 5 minites of flight, compared to + - 4min of stock set up:clappp

So what's the rest of your gearing setup, 19-42-61 or what? Did you use the Gaui super calculator as well?

http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=71718

I'm now running a 15-20-50-61 setup which optimally at 85% eff on my Stock Gaui 1100kv gets me 2042 RPM. I have my TC backed down a bit so I'm really not spinning that high, but MAN do I like this helo better at higher RPM's. With my new 'tuning' I guess I added about 150 rpms and I can feel the difference for sure; and keep in mind I'm just poking around at this stage, but she's a lot more fun with a little more juice and I think easier to control and predict. We'll see if this all holds true when I start to really 'sport fly' her but I've got a feeling I'll be looking for more RPM's and not less.

But keep in mind I'm running stock Woodies and perhaps the Carbons I have coming in will have me adjusting the TC yet again, we'll see...

Happy Flying!

What little I have flown my 550 I was happy with the 15t. Especially since I'm coming from a trex450xl 12t and 100-95-100 TC.

I'm running a Z20a/980kv with a 15t pinion 500mm blades.
15/42/19/61
(61/19)x(42/15) = 8.988:1

2300rpm (95% efficiency).

Yes I am running 19 42 61 on TP 2200mah 25c V2 extremes, and an FP Evo 3300 30c. With mavrikk brand 550 woodies. I also have a set of 550 CF mavrikks that are NIP. I dont have the skills for those yet, I dont think. I just downloaded the calculator. Thanks.

Are you talking about the Z20A 980kV?
I dont think it could compare with the 1100kV Gaui motor, only Z30 1110kV could do

The compairsion comes from the flying time I got from the Gaui 1100kv to the Z20 980
