Ok,
I think that considering money/performance the TJ Revmax seems like the way to go. My question is: What is the proper way to attach the magnet to the MA aluminum fan on my Stratus?

If you have any thoughts or easier ways to go about it please let me know.

Thanks,
Sprocket

All I can tell you is drill a hole in the fan for the magnet to sit in. Put one on each side of the fan, one side + up one side - down. Glue in with Epoxy. NOW the big question... how far out should the hole be? I do not know. Im sure David Harkey will chime in here and help you out.

the hole layout in the futaba GV-1 for a sixty are pretty close. I would only mount one magnet first then check the balance. Or I would check the balance first to see if you have a heavy side then mount the magnet opposite of that. That aproach has worked several times for me.

Sprocket.
As was mentioned. You want to check the balance of the fan before installing the magnet. Then you want to install the magnet at the lightest position on the fan.
As for how far out to install the magnet. Looking at the bottom of the fan. You will notice it is flat for a distance from center. Then it tapers down on the outer diameter. You want to install the magnet on the flat surface right at the edge of where the fan bottom starts to taper. Use a drill bit that is the same size as the magnet. Drill into the fan just deep enough for the magnet to sit. Do Not drill all the way thru the fan. It is OK if the tip of the drill does penetrate the fan completely. Just do not drill the magnet hole completely thru the fan. Use 30 min epoxy and install the magnet. Make sure the magnet is installed with the polarity correct.
Now check the fan for balance again. Make the proper adjustments needed.

Sprocket,

First I don't own a Stratus so this information "may" not be helpful.

It is very easy to "accidentally" drill the hole the whole way through the fan. Try to find a friend that has a drill press and a good vise to hold the fan hub. One with depth control would be great.

If possible and balance permits drill the hole where it aligns with one of the fan blades. It will provide something for the magnet to rest on if the hole accidentally gets a little too deep.

If the hole you drill for the magnet does not completely go through the fan I would get a "tiny" 1/16" drill bit and drill a hole completely through the fan. The reason for doing this "if the hole is a tight fit with the magnet" it will allow any excess epoxy to escape through that hole and allow the magnet to stay put during the drying process. Wipe off any excess epoxy that may seep through the hole.

I use 30 minute epoxy and let it dry overnight.

Just some things you might want to consider.

Great ideas guys. Thanks I really appreciate the help!

Instead of a drill I use a 5/32 (.156 Dia) or 4mm center cutting end mill to make the magnet pocket.. The end mill will give a nice flat bottom hole. You still need to drill a small 1/16 hole or smaller to let the excess epoxy out of the hole as you push the magnet in.
You will need to use at least a drill press and vice clamped down to control the end mill from walking all over the place.

Don't worry if you go all the way thru the fan. Not the end of the world. Both the magnet pockets on my Fury have the holes drilled thru.

So on the fury and stratus you have to drill the hole for the governer magnet to sit in? I think I might be reading this wrong.

Your correct.
