Hello,
I'm new of course... and of course i crashed on my first pack. Melted servo gears. All was going good I had a hard landing. Checked everything over and missed the top rear servo gears being melted. Needless to say I tried to hover again couldn't compensate and into the ground she went. So after reading here I chose 3 of the Hitec Metal gear servos... and some replacement parts.
My Question is I have enough left in my budget for either Real Flight 4 or a nice 401 and tail servo combo. Since I did crash on my first flight while waiting for parts I've been spending time on the free HeliSimRC. So what do you guys think is a better upgrade? I can now hover as long as i want on HeliSimRC and do some simple forward flight moves.
Opinions?

welcome, real flight is pretty good i use it, but most will say phoenix, the sim will deffinately pay off. i dunno about the 401 ive heard its good as well (dont have one yet, due to putting all my money into my 600e) but most importantly have fun and stay safe.
you will probaly need to watch sokal videos to get it set back up, i recomend getting a pitch gauge and the eflite tools, if you dont have other tools already.\

altho a 401 would be a sweet choice, you definantly should get a sim. mine has paid for itself already through not crashing nearly as much. its alot better feeling going to fly, hover, flip, what ever, when you already have a clue on how to do it because youve been doing it on the sim..
i have g4 and love it. BUT i havent tried the others

After all the problems I've been having with G4 online setup.... I would say get phoenix
G4 is very good, but the online problems are enough to drive a man to more helis

Do both! But get ClearView flight sim. It's only $40!
I tell you... its good! Best bang for the buck. I tweaked the B400 model on it and tweaked my radio (on an empty model) and it flies VERY close to the real thing.. awesome practice.

Looks like the Phoenix plugs directly into my DX6i. ;)

Same with G4 and your dx6i.

Hi,
Buy a sim,any sim. It will save you a LOT of money. I have both G4 and Phoenix. G4 is collecting dust, I use Phoenix every day. All Phoenix downloads, aircraft, sites and upgrades are free and with the money you save you can buy a 401.
I have recently, after 3 months of flying, upgraded my stock gyro to the 401 but to get the best out of it you will also need a fast tail gyro. More cash. The stock setup is fine whilst your finding your feet in helis. You need a sim to keep your crashes to a minimum and to teach you "muscle memory" for your fingers. After a couple of hours sim time I was hovering the Blade without thinking about it. And you can fly when it's raining .
HTH.

Sim first, clearly. If you're a newbie, it will take multiple flights before you tax the stock components beyond their usable limits. If you go 401, chances are you'll just crash that as well. More $$ lost.

Thanks guys. Phoenix ordered. I've also been reading through "Radd's School of Rotary Flight". I'm hoping by next weekend I'll have a smooth hover going :Bang

You'll find Slyster :noteworthy (this forum) has collated the "Blade 400 Bible". Lot's of essential info. Especially different Pitch and Throttle curves to calm the Blade down and make it easier to fly.
