Got to fly it a bit yesterday. It flew well, but was sluggish and we pretty quickly noticed it losing power.

As it turns out we have a motor failure. The shaft has broken loose from the can. So the motor is driving, but the shaft is slipping in the motor can.

I've looked very carefully and there doesn't seem to be any set screws to tighten, it seems to be a press fit.

Here's a little vid

Unfortunately there's not enough contrast to see that we are holding the outter part of the motor still while turning.
anyone know how to raise the contrast in a mpg? I have premier, but don't really know it well.

Nice flying heli, nice design, quality control...not so much.

That sucks man, first I've heard of that problem. On the bright side, here's a good reason to upgrade to the Z-power 5150 motor.

I see no reason to upgrade a motor we don't even know the performance characteristics of yet.

Also I may go 3s and would need to size it correctly.

This is now the third defective part on this heli (blade grip w/ way oversize bearing holes, collet badly machined and stripped; and now the motor. Combined with sloppy assembly and a bent tail shaft right out of the box and I have to say the QC department at Gaui was not on the ball the day my heli was built.

It'll be interesting to see how readyheli handles this one.

Also to note, this heli flys like a big heli. What I mean is that once you transition to forward flight it's scooting along pretty quickly. It needs room, seemingly just as much as the rex does. I'd hoped for a back yard flyer, I suspect it's not going to be able to do that - it needs more room.

Several people have posted about the 5150 motor. We all know the characteristics so I'll help you out since you don't: http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=79550

As far as the flys like a big heli, It is capable of flying like a big heli if that's how you choose to fly it. It certainly has the power. However have you tried this with a 450,500 or 600 class heli? I fly mine in my livingroom.

The majority of people in the 200 forum use this heli for exactly that, a backyard flyer.

I'd get a hold of ReadyHeli ASAP. I've never had a problem with them.

I saw a vid of a guy flying his 600N in the livingroom. Looked a bit dangerous to me.

Yes, I've seen vids of bert fly. My skills aren't quite up to that standard. (and there's the understatement of the week)
But my skills aren't his.
What I meant by the comment was: I want to see how it flys in MY hands with MY skills before upgrading power & speed. Make sense?

I wasn't putting the 200 down, please don't take it the wrong way. Just that in my hands, full forward flight likely would put it into the trees at my house.
Hover, yes. Full forward flight, maybe not so much. Still it'll be fun to play with and it's not like it'd be the first time I had to fish a heli out of a tree here.

I feel your pain with your heli. It would definately suck to just get a few flights before it craps out. Not to mention putting a bad taste in your mouth for it. Maybe readyHeli will help ya out. I sure hope so.

Anyway, good luck!

Are you sure it isn't the pinion gear slipping on the shaft??

Yes. Watch the eclip in the mpg I linked above, it's turning with the shaft/gear.

It's clearly the can slipping on the shaft.

We hit it with green loctite last night and tried it again today. While we did manage to lock the can to the shaft, the batt dumped after about 2 min of hovering and the heli was very sluggish. It's got to be pullling a ton of amps to do that to a new 25C pack. This motor is just no good.

Readyheli has sent me a new motor. Will retest once it arrives.
