My tail boom slipped on the weekend, looks like it twisted at both ends and the half moons also broke off in the tail case.
I ordered some stock parts and the upgrade carbon tail case.
I am a little concerned as why it moved, the flight was normal, no vibes, i landed and the tail was at 45deg angle almost!
I tightened the boom back in the frame and tried to move it but i couldn't!

On my 600 I wrapped a thin layer of mail packing tape around the end and now it holds fine in the frames.

Sounds like the half moon plastic positioner broke inside the stock plastic tail case, this can and has happened, even to me as well. I like to put in a small self tap screw now days to the stock 500 tail case, to 100% ensure no movement.

But the strange thing was the boom in the fram moved as well! So i wonder what moved first?
I will be very careful when re-building the tail

I honestly have not had the front ever move or twist, not saying it can not happen, just never seen it.....

I've had the boom slip in the frames, usually after a slightly(!) heavy landing but the tail end stays fast because I've fitted the carbon upgrade tailbox. I'd also treated my belt with silicone spray and found the frame end of the boom still had a thin film on the outside when I recently replaced the boom, since cleaning it up well I've not had a problem.

OICU812, I have a couple questions about your tailcase fix.
1. What length screw did you use? I'm worried about rubbing the belt.
2. Where did you put the screw? Pics would be great, but a description will suffice.
Thanks!

1. Do not remember, I think about a 2x4 or 2x6, I put a 2mm nylock inside to retain the bolt.
2. I put it approx 4mm back from front of tailcase on the tr mechanics side, in middle, bolt, nut etc will not rub as the belt at this point of course is top and bottom. I will get pic tomorrow if this is not clear.

Haven't seen this thread before, but just wanted to say that it has happened to me too.

From what I understood they are doing away with the half moons. Now like the 400 boom and case it is an actual hole in boom and the plastic part on boom case to hold it is a raised entire circle and will not break. I myself never liked the moon idea, as they seem to break. Always when assembling with this style I wick in a small amount of ca to inside of case, just to be sure and never had it happen. I put the small bolt and nut on later builds to avoid and ensure, will post pic later tonight. As far as the boom up front, yes it should never move, as a cautionary practice though you can wick a small amount of ca around ridge where boom meets the front receiver to ensure it can never move as well, you'd be suprised how much that can help, and it's not even noticeable to the eye.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to do this mod without removing the tail, but it's much safer this way anyway.
