Just wondered what % nitro people are going for. I got a Raptor 50se with the standard TT50 engine and am using 5%. Is that enough ?

I think oil content is more of a concern. I run CP 30% nitro........I"m not sure I would even try 5%. BUT....I"m sure it's cheaper than $35 a gallon:arggg:.
I have an OS hyper in my raptor......maybe the TT engine likes 5%. ?? Not likely....but....

5%? Man, I don't even run that low on my planes. I too run Cool Power 30%. I've heard of other heli pilots running as low as 15%, but never 5! You are running heli fuel yes? As Gunny pointed out, the oil percentage matters with heli's and the fuel for planes are different.
Oh and as of 3 weeks ago, I was still buying the CP 30% for $23 a gallon. The 20% is going for $18/gallon.

15% in the Raptor 50 Hyper equiped. I have a .004 head shim on order right now. It doesnt seem to need it but I read somewhere it will help and possibly get the motor to run smoother..

Blimey, all the advice i was given by my local co-pilots suggested 5 - 7 %. They have aways run that and don't seem to get problems.
So, what would be the advantage of higher Nitro content ?. I have had problems tuning, could that be one of the causes. By the way, 1 litre of Nitro here in New Zealand costs $26 NZD - about $20 USD.
I'm mixing 15% synthetic oil, 7% nitro.
Thanks.

I'm far from a nitro expert, but the higher the nitro content, the more power you will get. Not sure if the lower content makes it harder to tune or not....I wouldn't think so, it would just have to be tuned different from using 30%.
Seriously though, I've never heard of heli fuel at 5%....don't even know if any manufacturer even makes it at 5%!
I'd love to hear some nitro experts chime in here.

Coolpower does 0% (aka FAI) right through 5%, 10%, 12.5%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30%

GMoney,
Please don't install the extra head shim. You only need it if you are running 30%. The motor will really really smoke with the extra shim and burn a lot more fuel that is really unnecessary. If your performance is OK on 15 and the engine is doing OK I would leave it alone because you will eventually take the shim out if you don't go to 30%.

If you'll notice in the link you posted, the only heli fuel that cool power makes starts at 12.5%.
So I'll say again, I don't know of anyone that makes 5% HELI fuel ;) But that doesn't mean there isn't any...just that I haven't heard of any.

The store is called Midland Helicopters so it isn't surprising to find its a helicopter ONLY store. No planks, no nothing, just heli's. But maybe the one thing they deviate on is the fuel? Don't know, don't care just posted the link as I'm aware of fuel being sold by heli retailers that have nitro content lower than 15%.

Cool Power 20% pro pattern. About 2% less oil than 20% heli fuel. Cheaper, smokes less, and never had a problem with over heating, except for crappy fuel tube collapsing. :)

If you want a good performance and a long life of your engine, do not use lower than 15% nitro...
