Since I have the week off, I decided to take the Hurricane 550 to the local beach and fly over the ocean as I've done several times before.. Well, this morning while doing a roll, I ended up doing a nose dive in Long Island Sound..

R.I.P Hurricane 550..

Hurricane 550
Carbon short tail conversion
Z20-980
3x Futaba 3050 on cyclic
LTG6100/6100G Gyro/servo
Ar7000
2x Outrage Xp lipos
Eflite 3s 800 lipo for RX
Castle Creations bec
500mm carbon main blades
Type B canopy
Align 75amp ESC
Carbon fiber fin set
CNC head

All totally gone.....

I still have other birds but since getting the Hurricane 200, I really don't care to get anything else (at the moment).. But who knows, I might get the itch and go for something else in the 50/90 size range.. I wanted to go all electric but the nitro bug is still biting a little.. Maybe the Trex 700 will pop back up in my head.. Who knows..

Thank you!

I was too low and it didn't quite complete the roll and ended up inverted. By the time my brain realized that I should give negative.. I had already jammed positive and went swimming....

Nope.. too far out.. I just jumped in my truck and drove away.. I got about a 1/2 mile outside of the beach and turned around to see if I could at least see some bubbles or something.. After a minute or so, I left again.. I seriously don't think it has hit me yet..

I think my SO is more upset than I am...

Maybe those two morons on youtube learning inverted while hooked to a fishing pole were on to something. :)
Just kidding...sorry for your loss, man. I'm getting ready to build a 550 myself, so I'm sure it hurts.

I must say, I have 11 years in the military and I have been putting my life on the line as a police officer for 12 years protecting people who could care less if I live or die and I have gotten more support on helifreak for a helicopter crash than I do protecting and serving the public...

You guys are great..and I appreciate all the kind words..Thanks!

Guys like you are the greatest. Sorry to hear about your heli.

Look at it this way. It went in salt water, so you killed everything but the frames anyway.:arggg:

I would seriously never fly over water deeper then half a metre.... Just because of this.

Thanks!

My SO, asked if I wanted to wait until the tide goes out and have my friends from the harbor patrol help me look for it. As you said, I told her that the salt water would pretty much destroy everything...

MAN THAT SUCKS!

I have thought about flying over some water here in HI. There are definitely some scenic spots to do it and would make for some great youtube videos. But...the wife talked some sense into me...well more like talked me down. She said, "Sounds stupid honey. Better take your SCUBA gear."

You know, that was like when they say "fine" or "nothing".

She has told me not to do it several times and still...

I guess I should listen to her more often..

If you're serious about the parts I'll take them, but I think you should keep them and rebuild. It will take some time but...

Sorry again for your loss, that totally blows! And thanks for your current and past service, from a former MP-AF Police Officer harassment specialist; military brats, what ya gonna do... ;)
