Its been done!
A friend Ashley has bought the 700 tail boom, tail blades etc and popped in a YS 91 SR together with 710 blades on his 600, This produces insane performance because of the power to weight ratio. NO BOG, Autos are fantastic. 3d lights up. The overall size is very similar..
35mm was taken off the boom and the slot elongated slightly to fit. Easy.
You will need to mod some brackets for your engine.
Flights time was about 7.5 Min's on 600 tank with header.
yes, it was same 600 flybar but it didn't hinder anything.
Here are some pics for you fellow freaks.
Why go heavier? The 700 was about 10.5lb (it had bigger battery)

In the the future, please refer to your new bird as an T-rex 650N  :cheers
Congratulations with your modification project - looks really interesting.

Thats what I called it, the 650! not sure about the E on the end, could mean electric and its far from that.

FYI.... the design changes for the 700 were done for a few reasons as Align knew the 600 platform would have some troubles swinging 710's and a 90 engine.
The Auto clutch cant possible hold up to the strain! Hell it already sticks swinging 600mm blades and is a constant issue for some.
The spindle, thrust bearings, and grips are a safety issue! The testing they did shows possible failure which is why the 700 head is VERY different.
Please be careful with this fact!
Just what I was told about a 600 becoming a 700 when designing was going on and why the 600 did not become a 700....

I am planning to create my own T-rex 700E (or 650E if you so prefer) as Align "refuses" to make one for the public. :-)
It will be running 12s 3300 mAh or more (mAh)
Any objections to that idea?

Credit to you Bob for handing out an warning about messing too much with a design.
However, for the parts as the spindle, and main grips (metal only of course) i really doubt they have problems swinging some 690 blades with HS up to around 2000.
Maybe fatigue of the main grips could be an issue, as they dont have a "perfect" design on the 600.
But as always, more power/strain will induce more wear and tear for bearings, dampeners etc.

I like this idea and am anxious to see how this would work for you.
I have 3 8s packs (a combined 2 3s 3700s, 2 4s 3700s and 2 5s 500s). I could, in theory, make 2 12s setups (one of each pack) and have my 12 s 90 sized heli. I might do that to change things up. It would make things a lot different than all my 50 sized helis I have right now.

cheers,
I have passed that on Bob.
It could be that Align just wanted to produce and sell another model.
However the fact is the weight is where its at if you want your 3d to really come to life. That 8.5lb mark I hope is where manufactures could aim for with a 90.

I'm in the process of creating a 650n right now. I've got a new gear ratio, motor mounts and fan mount on the way. I changed my gear ratio to 8.04 and I will run 690s with a 1900-1950 head speed. I also did a mod to add a 4mm flybar and I'm looking into beefing up the gear train. If done right, its a damn cool mod. That 700 tailboom really makes the 600 longer! I'm going to run an O.S. engine, I would prefer a YS, but parts availability is terrible.
These are new pics with the mock up engine, a few details still need to be assessed, but It will certainly be solid as a rock.

i saw this heli flying the other day again and its still going strong. Great power to weight ratio.
