Still weighing what to order. Give me belt or the shaft.
I am a beginning pilot with less than 15 sec. air time, and a few hours bench time. After reading all the threads that my wacked mind can handle, i am leaning towards the belt.
Wadda ya think.
I don't know why i am asking as most of ya are woking with bent feathering shafts and striped main gears!!!! But i respect your opinions.
Thanks Les :dontknow

Les... I vote Belt!! That was all that was on offer when i jumped aboard the Wolverine Express and stuck my ground when others moved over to Shaft. Now some are coming round to the idea that belt may win out in the long run and coming back to it. Untill disties learn to stock enough SD parts and you as a newbie learn to master the art of 0 force landing then i advise you stick with the belt. Its a lot more forgiving.

I second that. I got the shaft drive and because of issue of parts availability, I am converting my SD to a belt. Like the idea of the shaft, but the gears just aren't durable for us newbies, especially with the low tail clearance on the heli.

I love the shaft (don't go there) but if you are a noob go with the belt. I have the belt and shaft and I love them both. I've been lucky with the gears probably because my flying isn't as spirited as others yet. The shaft is easier to maintain and work on and flies great. Flight times are longer with the shaft too. You can't go wrong with either. No matter which one you go with, having a nice parts inventory is a must.

Hey Chopper!
Thanks for losing the caps! You can lose them completely, for all we care, ain't arthritis fun.... (me too..) don't hurt the finger joints.
I'd say Jetleaf knows where it's at, but I'd also say starting out, get the belt. You can upgrade later for about $50 or so. (haven't checked current pricing and availability).
Tailstrikes take out the forward crown gear, and replacements are tough for now. Buzzkill's frustrated with his sd version, talk to him about it, or maybe you guys work sumpthin out...
Hang on to the Blade 400 if you can, they're fun later. Or strip the tx and rx out and sell it up here, they'res buyers....

Belt.
I am new to this hobby too (see flying "experience" in my signature) and so far I have had no issues with my tail that can be related to the belt.
(I had a metal tail unit fall apart in flight, due to "wet" locktite, but that is a different story) :)
As gray says, welcome to the addiction.

O K I guess i'll go with the shaft! :rolling:rolling Just kidding, thats what i thought.
I just wanted to check with the technical dept. first.
BELT DRIVE it is.
O and Gr4, how can i build a fleet if i get rid of the 400 (insert evil laugh here)
Thanks Les

I can answer that one. Because once you get a Gaui and discover what the rest of us freaks have discovered, one Gaui just won't do my friend. A swash plate and a set of frames is all I need to have a 3rd. So do what you will with the 400. You won't be flying it anymore after getting the 200 anyway.

You know you are probably right. And i keep straying over to the hurri 550 side. You know i'll have to have a big guy.:thinking

Ok what's with "Helista"? Please explain this avatar cult.

Helista is a group of friends on HeliFreak having fun, camaraderie and solidarity. Nothing hostile, negative or any ill-intent is associated with Helista.
There is no requirements to fly the Helista Avatar. We are for a lack of a better term "banding" together in fellowship to support our love of RC helicopters.
It's our hope that someday collectively we can have a positive impact on the RC helicopter community and the industry.
Ok, I totally made that up.
We're a tight-knit group here in the Gaui 200 forum, if not a little nuts! :woohoo

Shawn
Check the gaui 200 sub-forum.
(OK - missed the fact that you/we were already here) :)
You will sometimes see an entire thread with (almost) the same avatar.
We - the Gaui 200 lovers - are a more tight knit bunch of guys than most here on HF.
I am loving it ...

Are you sure? I mean no offense but the Helista avatar is much more apealing than the woman in your avatar. :Owned

The procedure is classified but we can publicly say it involves zip-ties, wood blades and gear lube.
I'm kidding, there's no gear lube ................:OK
