Today I received a surprise from Horizon, my new 12X radio!!!
I wasn't expecting it for another month maybe....
Anyway, This is the 2.4 AND 72 Mhz system, just change out the module on the back. I of course turned it on to check out the programming, typical JR stuff, no problem.
I installed the 72Mhz module to see what differences there are, noting some in the included quick start guide. What I did NOT see in the quick start guide OR the manual is the Freq Monitor explanation.....
When you turn it on with the 72 Mhz module installed, it asks if you want to turn RF on or not, down in the lower RH corner of the same screen is Freq Monitor. When you select it and click on it up comes a screen that scans all the 72 Mhz channels!!!
Was anyone aware of this??? I looked around the Horizon website but did not find any mention of it.

Extra features are always nice.
Since it's a module-based system, does that mean there's no ModelMatch?

I hear they finally fixed the previous inflexability with switch assignment, too. Is that what you're finding, Chris? I'd be more interested in their radios if the programming was more flexible.

There is Model Matching, ONLY with the 2.4 module.
For switch assignability, There are still some restrictions, for instance, the pitch lever cannot be installed on a switch only on a knob or other lever.
But, if it's already a switch like aux 2, you can put it anywhere you want.
I'll set up my E-Observer with the AP2000I and forward you the settings, which I'm sure will be loosely based on the 9303 settings....

Forward me the radio and I'll send you the settings...;)
My only issue with the 9303 programming was the switch assignment. Had to use 2 channels to get configurations the way I like vs single channel with the 9C.
Thanks in advance.

Funny...
Where's mine Chris?

Well it said Greg Alderman, but it was addressed to me! Hmmm
Sorry Greg

Sounds like JR and Futaba did similar strategies with the 10C vs. 12X. I'm trying to convince myself to switch to 2.4. I really want to, but can't justify it yet. I just don't want to have a reason to justify it. Never have had a radio problem but I'd rather prevent it before it happens. :)
I guess they fixed the issues with switch assignments though eh? That's the only problem I really ever had with JR's radios and why I always went with Futaba.
12X is a little out of my price range but maybe the next evolution of the 9 channel will have it cured. :D

Hi, I saw this topic on the TX12 from JR. I recently got myself a Futaba T12FG 2,4Ghz TX. All (yes ALL) switches and knobs are free programmable. The possibilities of this TX are so much, I'll probably won't figure then all out the next few years.....

In my opinion, the JR 12X/MV gives you plenty of adjustability. And the sad fact is, I set it up EXACTLY the same way as my old 10SX.....
I like where the throttle hold is, and most people that have been flying for quite a few years are comfortable with it in that position. If I was flying someone else's bird and throttle hold was on the top left corner of the transmitter, well, when I needed it, it would NOT get thrown....:)
Same goes for idle ups. Why have them somwhere that is UNFAMILIAR to the vast majority of pilots? Do you move it around the radio on occasion just to liven things up?? :wow2:
For ancillary equipment, AP2000I, bomb drop, what ever, sure, put them on whatever switch you want. For those that do FAI style competition with 10 different flight modes, one for each manuever, yes I can see the helpfullness in being able to utilize all those switches in different configurations.
When your doing 3D though, how often are you flipping switches? I use 2, Idle up and throttle hold. And they are always in the same place.
Then why do I need the 12X? I have 3 older 10Sx radios here, and all 3 are FULL of models.....The 50 model memory is VERY helpful. As is the ability to switch from 72 to 2.4 AND the fact that each model remembers it's own FREQUENCY!! With the synthesized module on the 10Sx, I had to remember what channel each model was on and switch it manually.
The sticks are much smoother (maybe because the 10Sx's are so old), but the quickness of the servo movement to stick movement is absolutely incredible. I am having to relearn my timing in my manuevers....
And I love the built in freq scanner. I used it in GA to scan before flying the E-Observer for GSP. That heli is on 72Mhz still due to the 2.4 downlink system.
I was getting the occasional flicker on one freq, but it was well away from the freq I was flying on.

I have setup many models with the 12FG, and it certainly offers MANY, MANY choices. Too many in my opinion, but only because that requires you to set up EACH and EVERY function, for example, each gyro function, Normal and AVCS, in EACH flight mode!!
It certainly works, and works well, bit it is also confusing to some and not as intuitive as the JR programming. To be fair, the 12FG/MZ is far and above easier to setup than the 9ZHP or the WCII was. I still have nightmares of trying to program that....:)

Hmmm
The 14MZ would let you make chages across all flight modes.

Maybe with their next $2500 radio it'll be just as easy as a JR radio!!! :nanabobo
You know,it's kind of funny as right now I have twice as many Futaba radios in the shop as JR.....

I had a 14MZ and now I am back to my 9303 -
What does that say?

Maybe with their next $2500 radio it'll be just as easy as a JR radio!!! :nanabobo
Meaning that it won't allow you any programming options so you don't feel inclined to bother with it....I can see how giving up would be easier.;):):)
