Yes folks Bell Bloke bares all in this his first video Wren engine build. This movie is packed full of extras, deleated scenes, hot crumpet and cups of tea with plenty of tarts on the side!! See real amateur footage of a Bloke who's prepared to roll his sleeves up and get his hands down right dirty for 1hr!
BANNED!!!
Yes on some sites and forums this movie was just too hot to handle (so we won't even bother going there) it's content considered too inflamatory for general release. The governing board of censors wanted to cut Bells piece but with tears in his eyes he decided to go to another studio where now you can see it in all it's glory.

What the critics said:

The Spectator. 'I was on the edge of my seat, never ever seen hands that hairy before'

The New York Times. 'Who is this genius?' 'The combustion chamber check was a joy to watch!'

The New Statesman. 'Wow! That bearing change was faster than a military coup, he should run for President'

MAD. 'He's Mad!'

National Geographic. 'Analasis of the footage shows hands of a simian nature, could he be the missng link between man and ape?'

Film will be on general release in 2 weeks! Catch it while it's jungle hot and hairy!

i will probably be one of those apes proving that anyone can build a turbine and destroying the crap that only engineers can own/build a turbine hellicopter.

Hi there Skiddz, many thanks for your intrest, it is ready to upload, I'm just trying to compress it but i am having a strange problem with a slight .....delay in the sound track when I do this in FCP. But it should be up soon. :-)

Hey Skiddz, cool. What are you going to get! I finished mine a few weeks back and I'm still trying to get it setup... but we now have snow on the ground! So I think I'm grounded unless it warms up a bit before the winter snow sets in.

I was able to get mine (wren/predator) in flying shape for around $5,500. But I used expensive electronics when I didn't have to. (gy611 and expensive digital servos etc.)

It's a nice machine (solid as a brink) and the wren is just a totally fantastic turbine!

Leaning towards the big ol' Bergen, but have been following Matt's Wren/Pred build thread. The MW44 powered Rexy 700 looks interesting as well... I suffred a pretty good setback last month when my wife's car got totalled and I had to use my heli money for the down payment on her new car, but I'll get there. Hoping to have an oil burner for IRCHA '09.

I'd be more than happy to exercise your Pred out here in sunny SoCal until you thaw out. :)

:clappp Do you have an extra room? :YeaBaby: I HATE the snow.

Yes, the MW44 looks REALLY good. and with the Trex700 frame conversion. Now THAT looks like it'll be a really cool combination. I find the century predator parts expensive to replace.

For the heli, yes. For you, not so much. I DID just build a giant doghouse for the "stupid brothers" (That's what I call my two labs 'cuz they're none too bright) so you can curl up in there if ya want. Barring that, the bathroom in the pool house is available. :)

That's my concern. Parts availability and cost. Cost. lol. We're talking a $6,000 "toy" and I'm concerned with cost.. ehehe

:YeaBaby: :banana Sounds like home :-)

But seriously... true on the cost. These things can cost as much as $10,000 but $6,000 if better than $10,000. I built mine on a budget. And true I could have saved a few hundred on cheaper gyros and servos (I could have used a GY401 that I already have).

But I think the savings happens "after" a crash and not during the build. For example, I just paid $40-50 for a new main gear and tail gear (forget the exact amount). I had the mesh too tight.... but that's another story. Anyway... I needed the same for my T600 a few months back and I paid $14 for TWO main gears and I think $8 for the tail gear... in any case it's half the price. Same with torque tubes.

But anyway, I don't want to say the predator isn't a great wren/turbine combination for the MW54. Because it is simply GREAT. It's just that once a conversion kit for the MW44 becomes available for the T700.... now THAT will be a good combo too.

I'm figuring right around $8k for a flying oil burner. I don't mind spending a bit more to get a high quality bird and I tend to go towards the higher end on the electronics 'cuz I'm a firm believer in the whole "buy cheap, buy twice" thing.

The T700 conversion REALLY has me interested. Align parts are cheap and the local shop has a ton of 'em. I wish Wren would hurry up with the MW44 heli engine and the conversion kit...

Sara?? :)

I think that the TREX is a great helicopter to fly, so with a tiny MW44 turbine it must be amazing. It's really going to be a 'Pocket Rocket!' The Predator is good if you want a bigger machine that can be easily converted to scale, since 90 sized is very popular. Parts are dearer yes but not half as dear as most of the stuff out there, it's just that TREX stuff is so damn cheap...and good. Well I don't know how they do it but that's why they have been such a success, and that they are great to fly. :-)

Honestly, I'd love to go BIG, but the budget may prevent that.. I had an opportunity at IRCHA to fly Bergen's turbine and I was impressed with how that big ol' beast handled so it's definitely towards the top (if not THE top) of my list. The thought of saving a couple grand by going Trex700/MW44 or Pred/MW54 is appealing as well... :)

Deron/Matt.. Which Pred did you guys convert?

Hi Kevin, well mine was a Pred 90 Max. But I bought the airframe second hand with an all metal head, metal tail box (pretty much all the metal add-ons) with carbon fiber frame for $500.00. But it had some NX parts, and I think that clutch system was actually for a gasser. So it's hard to say exactly what it was since there were so many different parts.

I'm kinda leaning that direction now but wasn't sure which Pred to start with. I, too, may opt for a used airframe to save a bit of cash up front. If ya don't mind me asking, what'd the Pred version of the '54 run ya?
