Hi Guys , I am new at heli's (flying 3 months) and at Heli freak .I am flying a Titan 50 and have some questions . First one is can I use the 30 size tail rotor blades ,is it the same size? That may be a dum question but I realy don't now. Second , my tail servo is Futaba s9254 , Gyro 401 and the radio is specktrum dx7 and I find that when I go full right rudder the voltage meter on the heli is showing that its sucking power ,where as left rudder dose not . Do I just adjust the throws on the radio ? and do thay have to be the same throw on either side (left / right)? Third question ,Head spead . Is there a such a thing ,:dontknowas to much head spead and if so how do you tell ? Fourth question , I am from Trinidad and fuel is a pan down here . I broke her out (2 gallons) on 15 % coolpower but now there is no more 15% , all there have is 20% or 30% so I got the 20% . what simtums do I have to look out for (overheating?)?:dontknow

Adam F,
A lot of good questions. First the 30 and 50 tail rotors are the same. For some reason Thunder Tiger has never changed the labeling on a lot of the common parts to reflect that.

You don't change the tail rotor servo end points by adjusting rudder throw in your transmitter. That adjustment changes the pirouette rate. The end points are adjusted at the servo using the "Limit" adjustment on the servo itself. Adjust the "Limit" adjustment so that your servo doesn't bind in either direction.

Yes, there is such a thing as too much head speed and it can be very dangerous if you are using wooden blades. The only way to tell for sure is to use an optical tachometer. Without an optical tach you should have an experienced heli pilot check you head speed for you.

If you can hold your finger on the back plate of your engine for five or ten seconds without it becoming too uncomfortable your engine isn't overheating. This must be done immediately after shutdown since the back plate will start to heat up as soon as fuel isn't passing by to cool it. It's OK to wait for the blades to stop.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Bob, Your answers have been very helpfull and I will keep you in the loop towards how the progress is going . One more thing , if I do have to much head speed ,what should I do (adjust needle valve or pitch curve ,throttle curve)? . On the rapter 50 I have a aftermarket metal head which I got from heliproz (I beleave its a mavrik head) and Mavrik 600 carbon blades ,also its a os 50 hyper engine with stock muffler. If you are hovering what should the RPM be at? I don't now how to test the head speed with the optical tachometer . I don't want to be a nag but your help has been so helpful . Thanks again Bob

The best way to change your head speed is to adjust the throttle curve. You must understand that we operate our engines richer than fixed wing engines to enhance cooling. You should not adjust your head speed with the needle valve. For a beginner a head speed of 1650-1700 works well. Much lower than 1650 and you may find that you get an oscillation either side to side or up and down. If that happens increase the head speed slightly. It takes two to operate an optical tach. One to fly the helicopter and the other to operate the tach. This is a good one available at many on-line shops.
