View Full Version : Where to Buy a Hurricane 550
Hi There,
it seems like they are getting hard to find. if there are any good places to buy in the US that would be great.. also Subtrim use to sell them in canada but I dont see him on ebay anymore.. I would like the SE version if they have such a beast.
Thanks
Tom

Every kit except the XES Pro is in stock at readyheli.

Contact them and ask for a package with servos etc and they'll knock a couple hundred off the cart price.

ReadyHeli is the best... Helidirect would be my second choice for a shop in the states.. if you wanted to order from Hong Kong then I'd say give flying-hobby a shot.. but first choice would be Readyheli

I know that it's not USA, but I have bought both of mine from Flying-Hobby, my latest is fantastic value plastic frame with Z20A 980, ESC, 4 x DS821, Gaui 210 gyro, 2 X 2200mAH lipos all for $399. I'm not sure whether it was intentional or due to stock levels but I got the SFD version with hollow main shaft, CNC swash and guide, FG canopy etc. etc. ($379 at RH without any of the electronics)

wow....
im thinking more and more of the hurricane 550. i like the idea of using my 2100 mah 3sp lipos for power. (i have about 15).
i have 1- 400 class heli, 2- 450's, and a 500.
the 550 would be an awesome addition.

If you're in the states, I bought mine from a forum member here (William at TurboFanElectrics.com) and he really hooked me up. There's a bit of a 'lag' for him to process the order and ship it onto you but I saved quite a few bucks. You'll have to get a pretty 'standard' offering too, he can't mix and match parts like the big guys but if that's cool with you... I ordered the Standard Plastic kit with ESC and Motor and a TON of spares (many of which I've already burned up, oops!), it's a great option; PM me for additional info or do a search on the forum.
I went with a Gaui 550 just to be able to use my T-Rex 450 batteries; they're not 'ideal' but they'll get the job done if you're gentle with them (i.e. no advanced sport or 3D flying!!!).
Happy Flying!

2100 packs are going to be bare minimum on the Hurri..and they had better be 25C or better if you plan on using the stock motor with them.

Yeah good point MM, 2100 20c packs would be for very light duty flying, no doubt! I do run G-Force 20C - 2250 packs but I really don't push those on the Hurricane; I have one set of Protek 3000's and one set of Zippy 3300's that are my primary Gaui 550 packs for REALLY pushing the helo. Well, as much as I can 'really push' which ain't much! ;)
But for getting started with the 550 and general poking around those should be okay, just don't push it. And you might want to consider getting a more efficient motor like the Z20A-960 Tonic-X or it's brother over at Flying-Hobby (Z-Power) to give you a bit more run time and probably a bit less stress on the power-train. I'm running a stock Gaui 1100kv H-18H motor and getting pretty good run times and performance, but it's not extremely efficient and MAN does it get hot at the end of a run, phew! But then again, if you're into mid to high level Sport flying and or 3D you'll probably want a bigger motor yet and then using the T-Rex sized batteries becomes questionable depending on your packs; 25-30C 2200 packs, probably but anything less is probably a BAD idea as they'll not be able to take the stress IMHO.
What sized and type packs do you have?
Good luck and Happy Flying!

I just ordered mine from grandrc; for about $10 more you can grab the combo with 3 ds821 servos, about a $90 value.
