hey , I would like to share some things that I did with the Ion, that I think will improve the flying style of the heli. a few things I learned from Andy Rummer and took some of his advice.
"old setup"
actro 32-3 heli version, 40-160, 9252s all around , 401 ( blew out all the time ) 10x radio, tempest 3D head
my new setup consist of actro 32-3 heli version, schulze 40-160 , ( doesnt have a good gov) 9252s all around , 611 with 9256 , futaba 14MZ, and a TJ pro ( donations from Freezin Eskimo and he helped install it ) stock Ion head with the flybar bridge.
setting up the TJ , placed the sencor close to the motor , put on the reflective tape, and done deal , I took the head off, slid the boom out some to dis ingauge the drive shaft and took a 1/8 balsa stick about 7 " long and stuck it in the head bolt hole to read when running with the sky tach, worked great
now this heli should behave very different compared to the old way ,
I will have a great gov , 8 minute flight in the old way gave the heli a high headspeed at 100 95 100 and slowly the max rpms would go down as the flight progressed, now having the TJ set at 1860 or where ever I want will give out a consistent flight , Andy really pushed the gov issue when he flew my Ion at IRCHA , then he said do away with the 401 , did that , and I took a step above it all , and installed the 14MZ, which just changing radios from a 10X to a 14MZ is a very big upgrade, you will have faster responces to the cyclics , 611 should act alot better, my 3Ding will require getting use to this , well 2 D , well thats about all I can say,
cant fly it till spring time . winter blues here in Alaska
but I did save a ton of money on my car insurance

Hey Misskimo,
This is very interesting. Thanks for sharing
Could you please be more explicit about placement of the (optical?) sensor and tape. Did you stick the tape directly on the outrunner bell?

Thx,
MHN

Thanks Misskimo for the pic.
Would you happen to know what the max rpm on the 32-3 would be with 10S?

2100 Mike
the TJ pro sure works great on the 10s ion , and yes it should rock on the 14s ion with the same gearing ,

I enjoy the heck out of mine right now without a governer. :D

So far I don't see the need for my applications.

hey Beast , I sure was thinking about flying it yesterday -5 degrees , and wind blowing 20 MPH , and I went and bought a set of mechanic gloves from NAPA and cut a hole in the thumbs so I could feel the gimbles , but I backed out .

get one of those transmitter mittens. works better i hear the gloves dont giv e you the same feel but the question is how will the batt do in the cold dont they have to get warm a little?

Yeh Beast , but how cold is too COLD for this heli , Im really not too worried about the batteries , I take the heli out of the car thats got a good heater and plug and play
