Due to the current lack of and inflated cost of Nitro fuel my LMS has started selling Tornado fuel (tornado-products.com) which I bought 10 litres of 15% Nitro. I'm concerned that the fuel only contains "15% specially developed synthetic oil" which is less than the recommended 18% for a OS50 SX-H Hyper on a Trex 600 NSP.
I'm only a basic 3D'er with flip's, rolls and dodgy Tic-Toc's.
Usually I use 15-20% Wildcat (18% oil) with a 1950HS and a Carbsmart set at 100 deg.

Am I right in thinking that less oil will mean more heat and reduce the life of the engine / bearings? Do I Have anything to worry about? If so, should I buy additional oil to increase the content to 18-20%? Or is 3% not worth worrying about?

Thanks for your advice.
Steve

I have used Cool Power 30% heli fuel with 14% oil. Same fuel as the CP 30% that is sold, just 14% oil precentage. Did not have any problems.
Also I know Mr. Taya was mixing a 30% nitro fuel that only had 8% oil a few years ago. Several of the Japanese pilots were using it with great results. All this was done to try and reduce the smoke output without going to a heavy viscosity oil in the fuel.
The engine will run fine with the 15% oil provided the mixture is tuned correctly. But that is true even if the oil was 18%.

Thanks David. I'll sleep better tonight. :)
Even though OS state a minimum oil content of 18% I was hoping that the synthetic oil was better quality so having less won't matter.

Yes and since your in the UK you might want to check with the OS distributor there about OS engines. I believe is use to be Irvine that distributed and service OS. I remember a few years ago that some warranty claims were not honored because the engines has been run with fuel the distributor didn't say met the specs.
Maybe someone in the UK can chime and give you the inside news about it. I just am remembering what I read in the forums.

If you are really worried, get some oil and add it to the mix. You could use castor or synthetic. You should be able to find Klotz oils from motorcycle or kart shops.

Thanks guys for all the advice.

Looking at the amount of oil 'snot' dripping off the boom I think 15% is more than enough oil in my Hyper! I was hoping that having less oil and a carbsmart selected to 110 deg would have resulted in less mess - but I was wrong. (Can't you tell I prefer electric :))
