Has anyone installed the HeliArtist Hughes 500D canopy on their Mini Titan?
It's supposed to fit, but I'm wondering how much modification, if any, is required. This thing looks nice.
I tried doing a search but all I turned up were T-Rex installs...
Thanks!
I've used it. No problems. Flies beautiful. Just a few things you should watch out for :
1) Don't lose ANY of the wooden mounting shims. You need every single one to mount a titan and you'll need really long screwdrivers to mount them due to lack of space inside the fuse.
2) VERY IMPORTANT!!! Check your swash elevator pitch and reduce them to bare minimum before you spool up and increase slowly making sure the flybar doesn't hit the rear portion of the fuse where the rotor head comes out. I didn't know about this and had about 6 degrees of pitch for my elevator. Bent the flybar and made a hole in my fuse. Nothing unrepairable but a lot of heartache on a brand new fuse.
3) Say goodbye to large servos like the 9257 coz it won't fit. The HG 56 fits quite well though. Make sure the tail rotor case extends out of the tail well or you'll have trouble screwing in the tail fins. And be careful with the wooden boom support bracket is not very strong balsa and they only include one for the titans boom and another with a smaller opening for the Trex. I had to dremel the Trex bracket after breaking the one intended for the titan.
4) I use a scorpion motor and their taller than the stock titan motors, had to trim the fuselages canopy or it will touch the motor and you won't be able to attach the canopy.
5) My batteries are a big big (Kongs) and if installed on the tray the canopy won't close tightly. I ended up velcro strapping them to the bottom of the tray where the ESC usually goes and it's fine there without disrupting the CG.
6) I also ended up installing my receiver right infront of the rear mounting directly on the fuses floor so I can access it easily from the window, and there's so much space underneath I may consider installing the gyro right under the mainshaft. It's a bit tight where it normally sits and if the fuses body touches the gyro, any vibrations transferred will make your gyro go a bit crazy.
7) I used some small velcro straps to tighten the fit between the canopy and the fuse and this made the the whole heli so much quiter even my LHS was amazed. I gave him the finger for not informing me of the amount of work required to make this fuse work and his lack of information regarding it.
After a week of hard work it files really well, not too hard on my motor and esc and flies lik real heli due to the extra weight at the bottom. A lot of space under the titan mainframe I'm tempted to put in a cam.... or maybe a couple of GI Joes..... :)

mnhr,
do you have any pictures? Sounds like a lot of mods required, but the fuse looks very nice and I'm sure it's worth it. Have you considered a five blade head for it?
