The newer proflex starters are coming with 1 roller bearing installed and 2 guide bushings. The failures where mostly a result of cracked bearing cages due to misalignment in install or removal. The bushings fix that problem and even people that had major issue with the flex start seem to be having good results now. I normally get over a years use on my flex start bearing without trouble. That is on the .91 OS motor.

The use to 2 bearings was really not doing anything. Once one gearing locks up, the other does nothing. Unless they are perfectly synced, only one bearing did the work. The misalignment also lead to some of the cage failures and bearing failure.

Short of the story, misalignment during install and removal will damage the bearing and cause a failure. The new bushing guided version should fix that.

If the pro flex bearing brakes is it possible only to change the bearing and not all of the pro flex. Would be better and cheaper than to buy a new 1. So if the pro flex works good i will get 1. Is there a guaranty on it?

Here is the Site where i have got the coupler for my car. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSN77&P=Z The price has gone down a bit.

The new proflex start shafts have removable ends and the bearings are easy to change with a press.

The start shaft in the pic probably has the same issues. It needs a guide to prevent the damage to the plastic bearing housing.
