Well...there she is, complete at last. The replacement FADEC (provided by Chris B.) works flawlessly. The FADEC program parameters provided by Gary Travis stopped the flameouts that I was experiencing on throttle up/Throttle down; and the turbine fires right off on startup, usually on the first try, without any spectacular pyrotechnics. In fact, its relatively quiet when it first fires off and runs at a low idle.

So far, I've only lifted the bird to light on the skids; haven't done any actual hovering or flying yet....just little baby steps until I stop shaking from intimidation while holding the transmitter!

Very Cool Garren! Now enjoy!

Now I haven't talked to anyone about this yet...but I am in hopes that maybe at the St George Utah event in April that maybe we can talk all (or most all) of the Bergen Turbine owners to crash (no pun intended! Hopefully) the event...would be very cool to have 8 or 10 Bergen Turbines buzzing around the field...hopefully you and your son can make it!

I am on a business trip for the next couple of weeks and am going through withdrawls not flying the Bergen...I don't believe that the turbine is something you fly 3 or 4 flights a year to show off...mine flies 7 or 8 flights every weekend (FADEC shows I have almost 45 hrs of turbine run time now).

Again! HAVE FUN!!!! You are going to love it!!!!!

Gary and Greg;
Did some attemped hovers in my driveway; i.e., just barely lifted off, and some skidding laterally, but feel sure the head speed was close to hover. I was so busy concentrating on keeping the bird upright, didn't think about a head speed measurement, but think it was around 1500 rpm. My son did do a fuel consumption measurement; used over 40 onces of fuel in 7 minutes. That seems a little excessive.

My throttle curve goes from 0 to 52% at mid stick, and from 52% to 53% from mid stick to full throttle (per Bergen's instructions). Pitch curve goes from -9 to 0 at mid stick, to +9 at full stick. At these settings the bird has PLENTY of power; the collective stick barely moved above center position at liftoff. Should I lower the throttle curve for better fuel economy?

Get a check on your headspeed in a hover, 1450 to 1550 is the neighborhood you'll want for the time being.

Fly it around, get some time on it, get used to the handling. Good preflights and post flights.

Remember to start the timer when the Turbine starts!!

OH...bummer...what I screw up now...hey...didn't you just have a Birthday also?...I forget...are you older than me now? :D

Suppose I should get a couple hours of sleep before I go back to work in a couple...good thing for the Heli-Freak...keeps me awake (and gets me in trouble!)...but...sure doesn't seem to be much action on it around 3 in the morning!

as soon as I get into work tonight I will write on the VAP board 100 times....
I WILL NOT PICK ON CHRIS
I WILL NOT PICK ON CHRIS
I WILL NOT PICK ON CHRIS

Hi, I know this an old message. But I was wondering about this and maybe someone can shed some light.

I thought that turbine helis didn't have throttle curves, but from the message above. It appears they do?

Thanks.

Deron,

Yes, there are throttle curves in at least Wren Turbines. They aren't like a Gasser or Nitro, but they do exist. Once up to speed they are very flat.

Thanks Lou, I've been asking a lot of questions from a lot of people. And I think it's all finally coming together in my head.

Hey Greg, you on your second count on the fadec? I thought you would have a lot more hours by now. I have a little over 68 hrs on my Wren and got it about a year after you built yours. Craig B

It's a really sweet looking bird. I've always thought the side tanks were one of Bergen's most outstanding features. What's the flight times like?

BTW... another story. I gave my younger brother a t450sa to get him started. He was amazed that you usually only got 4-6 mins out of a battery. He thought that was a lot of money and time spent building for such a small amount of time in the air.

I told him that those 6 mins felt like an eternity :YeaBaby:

The side tanks are 22 oz a piece, giving a flight time of 12-15 minutes. Some have put 32 oz tanks onboard, I have 2 Industrial Birds here with 2 ea 50 oz tanks on board!!

With payload, we're expecting 20-25 minutes or more.
