Good Day All,
Alot of you complain about Esky radio's being junk because its 75mhz and "Glitchy" As mentioned before its not because of interference because of frequency or poor quality servo's or reciever.
The main problem is the pots inside the transmitter itself. After use or even if they have been stored in a warehouse for long the pots get Dirty.
So if you have a radio that acts funny (servo's twitching ect ect) use this video to fix the problem.
you can tell right away when its the pots, simply lightly tap on top of the control stick if the servo twitches the pot is dirty and needs cleaning.

Thanks DW, I just checked my Tx and had glitches on the Elev/Aileron stick I didn't know about till now! I'm off to get some lubrication :cheers
DierWolf that’s an excellent post! I’ve been fighting this problem with my transmitter for a couple of weeks now. In fact I even had a crash due to this. My first attempt to fix the problem was contact cleaner. This did not work very well. It’s been very humid around my area the last few weeks. Enough that when bringing the radio outside from the air-conditioned house I could see the condensation forming on it. So I tried WD-40 (as it repels moisture) and this radio works better then ever. Not sure if it was due to the moisture or the things you mentioned in your video, but in either case I’m happy now and gaining back confidence in my radio.

i cant watch the vid because im mobile right now. but i know that i tried contact cleaner but onbly lasted a few flights. so i pulled it apart and cleaned it agin then gave it a few shots of wd 40 through the holes. i havent had one glitch yet.

Contact cleaner will just clean it and wount last long, WD lubricates it and keeps it good longer.
Yes radio in Airconditioning, especially if it then goes outside in warmer temps after will cause moisture to form on the contacts..
I just had to post it becuase its seems its popular believe that because the servo's "Twitch" its coz of "Crappy" equipment or becuase its FM interferrence.

Took my heli down the field after cleaning the pots with WD40 - still had glitches after that! :DOH
I looked at the pots again and found a piece of solder wire (from the factory) stuck between two of the connections on the glitchy aileron pot/PCB !!
Check for dodgy/excess solder too.
Can't wait to give it a try tomorrow, hoping I'll be glitch free at last & will edit in result later...
Edit (2 days later) - took it down the park, Was a nice sunny day, 3 mph breeze, got it upto about 6 feet and it went crazy! Glitching right then left aileron and also rudder and tail unstable too! Need a new boom and tail shaft from the emegency landing!
I'm really stumpted now...:thinking I may just have a really dodgy one and need an upgrade before the crash repair costs start mounting up!

Thanks DW, I had started using PTFE spray on Pots some 40 years ago in the Xerox factory where I had worked and quite frankly I wasn't sure what kind of control components were being used on the TXs as I am new to this hobbie and never had one apart. This is a tried and true fix for dirty Pots, the only problem we used to see is that on occasion the Pot would dry out and the resistance would become unstable again. Do you reccommend PTFE or something like Tri-Flow? and which compond have had the most success with?
Thanks

Well PTFE (teflon spray) would certainly make it nice and smooth, how long it lasts i dont know, never tried it. I simply use WD40 lasts quite a while, really i havent had to redo his radio pots since i first fixed it.

I have done the above pot cleaning with WD40 and removed a piece of loose solder rattling about the connections on the PCB's.
I still have glitchy flight...:arggg:, can you suggest anything so I can eliminate it being a tx problem?
Could it be a bad bearing or binding on the tail gear that is causing the problem? Cheers!

Inspect your reciever antenna, both the solder point and the entire length for cracks. Check crystal if its loose or fitting loosely.... you can make it fit tighter by opening the reciever box and squeezing the crystal inserts a little.

The heli is only 3 months old so there is no looseness with crystals or antenna wire but I flew a bit tonight and it was glitch free finally
It was quite windy (but I had to try - you know how it is!) and i managed a few hops and short hovers and there were no glitches - at last. Can't wait to get down the park again but the weather isn't looking good for a few days! :bawl
I found it was also tail gear box binding with the belt pulley and causing overloading on the motor!!! But the twitchyness has gone when I tap the stick, so great tip DW, many thanks once again.

Hi DierWolf I was using my Sim controller last night when I noticed all of a sudden my elevator control stick started going wacky right around centerpoint I checked in the contoller setup and it was jumping all around with barely any touching on the stick. I remembered your sticky and did the cleaning with WD40 and now it is completely stable and just fine! When this happened it caused me to crash (in Sim) and as routine maintenance on my E-Sky TX will help me avoid crashes!
Thanks for the help with this!

when i got my belt-cp and took it to the field i thought the gyro or something ealse is wrong, and i was very disappointed. after a while of ground time i discoverd the glitchy Tx was the problem. as some of you said already i've noticed it by the simulator caliberation section when the rudder channel was jumping al over.
i took the pots apart and gresed them with contact grease. all was fine for about a year now! and today i have discoverd a glitchy pot again. now is the ele channel.
so i sprayed some servisol on it and it got worse then ever,it is impossible to fly the heli. thank's to your sticky and my old experience with this :BSSTx i will fix the pot first thing tomorrow morning. great vid by the way.....thank's:thumbup:.
love this forum!!!:)
