Well folks, here's my completed WREN turbine. Still need to test run it, then attach the gear box. Thank you everyone for your help getting a few problems worked out. (Especially Bell Bloke and Sara from Wren.) Mostly caused by by big fingers or my mis-interpretation of the "british" manual. Why can't you guys speak english like the rest of us? :YeaBaby:
I think anyone that is considering buying a Wren should build it themselves, really give your a better perspective on the craftsmanship involved. Since I like to fiddle with machining I can appreciate great workmanship and engineering!
Anyway... here' s a few pics including the frame and head for the airframe. The rest is in a box in the corner of my shop.
Cheers!

Lovely!!! You'll be guarding that Wren like your little Icon character does with his nut then! :D
Great to build in yourself is'nt it? I love it. If Sara ever needed any outworkers to build engines, I'd be there....:D:D
By the way is that a copper washer that I spy on your glow plug? If so you might want to whip the little devil off, 'cos he's not needed here.
Please keep the build pics coming.

Good eye! Yes it is. I'll remove it. But wasn't that in the assembly instructions?
Cheers.
The instructions should say to remove the copper washer. Correct me if I'm wrong, Bell Bloke, but didn't Mr. Cheese make that mistake with your first build?
For the benefit of those of you who weren't around when Bell bought his first Wren, the build was so simple that it was (apparently) done by Mr Cheese, Skeeter Pilot's dog. Do you have a link to the thread, Bell Bloke? I've lost my pic of Mr Cheese at work, I used to have it on my wall.

Thanks Sara,
I double checked it only says:
"Step 63. Starter/glow cable. Remove the glow-plug and slip the earth ring over the threaded end. Refit and tighten plug firmly. Fit cap onto plug end."
Why was the copper ring supplied?

The copper ring is standard fare with the glow plug.....The Nitro guys find it necessary......:)

Here it is Sara as originally posted way back in 2005!!! Wow I sounded so much younger then.....
TAKEN FROM AN OLD POST 2005
Well it just had to be done sooner or later. This Wren Turbine thingy has finally found its way into a flying machine. Mr Cheese, a Norfolk cross breed dog of above average intelligence (Skeeter Pilots' dog), is a little disappointed I think.
Followers of this turbine topic, may know from previous posts that Mr Cheese has been the brains behind this whole Turbine build project from the outset.
It was Mr Cheese who constructed the turbine in the first place, which arrived from Wren in flatpack form. Wren also thoughtfully included a step by step picture book for non readers like Mr Cheese.
This was then followed by a very serious job offer from Wren the following day,
and that really was the turning point in his career. Whilst I was experimenting with a Wren Hog Roasting Rotisserie & BBQ unit, Mr Cheese had bigger ideas, he had been working on something very secret.
Very briefly Mr Cheese, under the cover of darkness, moved my Smart car from Skeeter Pilots' drive leading us to believe it was stolen, and over the next week removed the Smarts' 3 cylender power plant and substituted it with the Wren. Skeeter Pilot discovered the car a week later in an out building on his property, but by then Mr Cheese had finished the job.
I now realise that this whole affair was just a PR stunt by Mr Cheese to gain notoriety.
He is now the chief thermodynamic consultant at Rolls Royce and moonlights for British Aerospace, and that's that we know about. Skeeter Pilot and Sally hardly see Mr Cheese now. They say he's totally changed these days, he no longer listens to Vaughn Williams, instaed it's Drum and Bass, Hip Hop, with a bit of James Brown thrown in. At the weekends he's often seen out larging it with his *****es and bigging it up, he is indeed a changed dog!
So what about the Wren Turbine then.
Well you can't buy jet fuel at garages in England, so I decided to convert the car back.
As for the Turbine, well I thought I'd see if it would work in a helicopter.
I won't go into the details of the Century Predator conversion, as that is another story. All the clever stuff is done by the girls and boys at Century and Wren anyway, so I can't take any credit.
The whole things a doddle, all you do is build the Predator (piece of cake) and slap the turbine in using the Wren conversion kit (that's easy too).
Everything fitted perfectly and there no bits missing from either engine kit or heli kit!!! Wow how about that!
I then just charged it up, fuelled it up, and went flying. It was easy, No drama No flame outs, No starting problems, hot or cold. It has to be the easiest heli I have ever flown, and bloody hell is it fast!! It goes up like a missile on a wire........... I am truely amazed.
One problem with it though.... I have got a bit addicted to the sound of turbine engine starts, I have done over 70 starts so far, is this a problem?
So just to conclude, I love this Century Predator/Wren Turbine thingy.
So if you are a human of below average intelligence, make sure that you are advised by a dog of above average intelligence like I did, that way this Wren/ Predator Turbine thingy build should work out just fine.
Where's the pic of Mr Cheese in his protective goggles?

I've checked all the manuals this morning and you are right, that's been left out of the Gasgen kit build manual. In the Thrust kit manual, after the instructions about preparing the glowplug by pulling out the coil (step 43 in your manual) it then says "Fit the glow plug and tighten firmly. The copper washer is not used and can be left out. " That's been omitted from the Gasgen manual. I'll put it in!

Ah, thanks Chris. Didn't know. Never had a nitro and this is my first turbine build.

Thanks Sara, being my first build I tend to following instructions to the letter. By the second or third I feel more comfortable.
