View Full Version : Can Main Grip bearings cause tail vibration?

About a month ago I had two abrupt motor starts because of an ESC programming problem (user error). The second one was enough to strip the main gear, bend the flybar shaft (main blades swung back and hit the paddles), and who knows what else. I've just gotten the time to start repair and I found that one of my main grip radial bearings (large one on inside end of grip) is notchy and the ones inside the grips each have a very small bump. I had noticed before the 2nd occurance that I had a vertical tail fin vibration that I hadn't noticed before.
Is there a chance that the main grip radial bearing can cause a vertical fin vibration?
If not, I'm looking for another culprit (probably in the head from what I've read) so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey
Definitely so! Change the bearings and it should be fine.
I suffered vibration on the vertical fin from a damaged thrust bearing. After it was replaced it was fine. I have now moved from a #16 pinion to a #17 pinion and now have vibration on the horizontal fin. Left side only. Looking at it from the rear. Tightened up the belt. Will try later this afternoon to see if the problem has been solved.
