Sould I remove the red wire on the ESC and just plug into channel 3 the black and white wire. On page 8 in the Gaui manual it shows the ESC being plugged into channel 3, but it also shows a 7.4V battery connected to BEC, then to the receiver. I'm using a 4.8V battery connected staight to the receiver. With my setup and all three wires from the ESC connected to channel 3 will this cause a problem?

Not sure what radio or rcvr you are using....but Usually channel 3 is the throttle.....you can leave all three wires connected to the Gaui esc if you have one that does not have a built in BEC....(there are new ones out there with BEC's...the older one from SAE electronics did not have one built in)
Yes you can power your rcvr directly with the 4.8v battery...and if your esc has no BEC it should work just fine....you get the servos to operate with no main batteries hooked up. (usually we use a voltage regulator to drop 7.4v lipos down to a workable 4.8v)
if your esc has the built in BEC.....you might have to disc the red wire to get things to work.
Post a picture of your ESC if possible...

as far as I know.. the gaui 50a ESC REQUIRES all 3 wires in order to function

Mine did.
The ESC doesn't have a BEC, so it needs to get power from the Rx for the electronics.
