Hi all,

This is my first time setting up a gyro. I've watched Finless's videos and also the one that Jermo made. I'm trying to set up a Futaba 401 gyro with a Spektrum DX-7 (aircraft not heli version). I've set the gear channel for the gyro. Gyro sense is set to auto with the rate 0:72% 1:28%. When I flip the gear switch from 0 to 1 should the normal mode led on the gyro go out? When I flip the switch while in the menu it doesn't matter, it just stays on the 0 only when i use the select button will it move. If I lower the rate to below 50% the led will go out. The way I understand it is when it is above the 50% I will be in HH hold mode and below 50% I will be in rate mode. I believe that I should adjust it mechanically while in rate mode with some practice hovers. Do I have to adjust it in the menu to below 50% and then after adjusted raise it above 50% for HH hold mode? I thought that I could switch between the two with the gear switch.

Thanks for any info,

Jerry

Hey bro,

When using the gyro sense menu (like I do), it's not the gear switch that changes the settings, it's your flight mode switch (if you look in your menu, it should say F.MODE by the AUTO yes? If this is the case, when you flip to Idle1 (ST1), then your gain will be 28% and yes rate mode. When the red light is solid, you are in HH mode, and when it goes out, you are in rate mode.

Whether or not to adjust it in rate mode is a personal preference. Back when I was just setting up my TREX, I did exactly as the Finless vids showed and never bothered with setting up in rate mode. I just centered the slider in HH mode and never looked back. Right now I have all of my flight modes at 72% gain and it's great.

Good luck!
