Hello fellow battery burners,

I've been thinking about using A123 packs instead of a 6s pack to keep costs down, yet I can't seem to find any good reference on how to use the BC6 to charge A123 packs.
Is this even possible (including balancing)? If so, what are the exact settings I should use...

THANKS in advance

Set the charger for Li-Fe in the User Setup. That is all you need to do.

Great, works! Now to a capacity question... Maybe you can help me out with those calculations....
I'd like to use a mini 12V 12AH sealed-acid battery (from my electric scooter), as my field charger. I know I can connect the BC6 to it, how do I calculate how many chargers I can have out on the field? What's the formula for that...

THANKS

Can you clarify what you mean? Are you referring to how many charges you would get out the 12A battery?

Yes exactly... If I use the BC6 to charge a 2300mAh 3S A123 pack source from that 12V 12AH battery, how do I calculate how many charges I can have before I need to recharge the 12V battery?

I know there must be a formula for this somehow...

THANKS in advance

you would need to know how many amps the charger is pulling from the battery. Since A123's can be charged at high rates, if you can charge it just under 5 amps with the BC-6.

Max draw the charger could pull is 5 amps from the power supply. You would get probably 3 charges from the 12 amp 12V battery.

Not sure I follow - 5a X 3 = 15 ??
And if I used a 10A charger (for example the A123 Hypersonic charger) that would give me what, 2 charges?

THANKS

I don't know the exact formula, but I have a 17 amp Jump start. Charging 4S A123's at 10 amps, I get 2 charges and the 3rd charge the battery will die.

Yeah, you were spot on - I've tried it - 3.5 charges....
