Hey Jacob - I can understand your frustration. Your coming from a DX6 world in which the menus seem to be very simple but I myself coming from the futaba world took a bit to learn my Dx7. Play with the radio trust me when I say you will figure it out.

Just keep at it. I came from a Futaba 6EXH and the 10c is way more sophisticated. It does take a little more time to program for your Heli (I programmed mine for a Trex 600e) but once you have done it once it is easy. I went through 2 whole transmitter battery cycles programming it (learning it along the way).
Once you get passed the learning curve you will be amazed by how customizable everything is.
Good luck with the 10c! It has been REALLY good to me so far.

This is going to be harsh. But here is a new concept.
Learn about the program in the radio your using. All radios are pretty much the same as for programming. I have flown Futaba for 20 years. But I can take a JR radio and get thru the programming enough to set up a model.
If all else fails, read the manual a couple of times for the radio. It will not tell you the exact numbers to put in the radio for a particular model. But it does give instructions how to go about it.
Finless didn't have a video to learn about a radio. He just read and learned about it on his own. <G>
Try learning how to operate the radio on your own. I think you will get a lot more satisfaction setting up a model yourself.

In that case, why have a video forum at all! I mean with your logic we all should just (RTFM) for all our questions!
Matter of fact, why not get rid of the forums all together, I mean hell we can just read the manual!

The problem is FUTABA.
They do not want to support any forums.
OR lend 10c Radio to people like Finless to do a how to Video.
Helifreak members need to swamp Great Planes Model Distributors with emails at gpinfo@gpmd.com (gpinfo@gpmd.com)
Requesting to participate in these forums.
And if they don't respond, I would Email Futaba in Japan http://www.rc.futaba.co.jp/hobby/ (http://www.rc.futaba.co.jp/hobby/) and tell them what a LOUSY JOB their USA distributor, Great Planes Model Distributors is doing.
The proof is at the flying fields.. over 95% pilots fly JR/Spekrum.

I tell it how it is, cause there are no pretty pictures on my walls.

Bob and I both have tried to get Futaba Equipment for him to fly and do vids on. Bob is willing and interested but... Futaba is not interested. We have tried MULTIPLE times and talked to many people and there is absolutely ZERO interest. I have gone so far as to offer to BUY whatever Bob wants at cost for the vids and the only places I can do that is from retailers, Great Planes is not going to support Bob or HF.
Paul Beard at Spektrum and now more than ever JR on the other hand are VERY supportive of Bob's desire to teach and help people with the vieos. At this point, there is a very good reason Bob is flying what he is. When you think about it and look at the dwindling numbers of Futaba radios at the field, Bob is probably utilizing his time more effectively to help many more people anyway.
There are some things that we cannot change, but it is not for the sake of not trying or not spending $$ either one.:arggg::arggg: Personally, I run our video server and I can tell you that I don't know of any cheaper method of showcasing your products and better return on investment than the Finless videos. Any single Finless video is downloaded more than all our flying vids put together. HUGE VIEWERSHIP and HUGE EXPOSURE for only the cost of a given part. Go figure..... :DOH

JAnderson,
My logic is when I go to events and talk to some of the pilots. There is a lot of them that have radios and had the same radio for 3-4 years. The only way they can get a model flying is they copy a model that is already setup. IF they have to set up a program in the radio for a completely new model from scratch. They don't even know where to begin. And to me that is sad that pilots can't do that because they haven't learned how to operate there radio they have been using for a few years.
Like I said, I knew my previous statement was harsh. But it just amazes me the pilots that will not even learn anything about the radios other than how to turn it off and on.
For example. There is a pilot local to me. He has pretty much only flew helis with 120deg CCPM for the last 3-4 years. Yet I see him on the forums asking what type of swash to set in the radio for a new model and which way to reverse the servos. Guess I would think after only having 120 deg CCPM model for a few years he would know which swash to set. <G>

Well I see that too Dave and understand. RC helis is a 2 concept knowledge learning. One is all the mechanical stuff and the other is electronics and radio programming.
I can say I see really smart guys with a great mechanical ability and understand the concepts of how the heli works and can build an airframe AWESOME. But for whatever reason, maybe because they are not PC savvy or something, don't GET the radio programming part. It's not something that comes to them intuitively like the hardware side of the hobby does.
Of course I have seen the opposite too. Guys that GET the radio stuff but don't build too well... They seem to be missing the mechanical ability part.
I mean I know guys that could fix just about anything but ask them to go to a Web page or do something on their PC and "blank stares"....
But what I notice (and nothing against mechanical guys) but the guys that know the radio stuff tend to learn all the mechanically stuff faster (or easier) than the other way around.
Anyway while many RC heli guys have both talents by either learning them the long way or it just comes to them easy, not everyone is able to do that easily and for me its the radio side that is ultimately the one that seems the hardest to learn and get through! Just my experience!
Anyway I would be glad to do a video on the 10C but I am not going to go buy one to do it. I am on Spektrum now BUT would be willing to use both 2.4 radios on my helis if Futaba wanted me to do something.
Bob
There are simply too many radios out there for anyone to do a tutorial on even a sizable portion of them. But let's face it, all the radios are nearly identical they just have a different layout. If you're looking for a tutorial on a particular radio so you know what numbers you should use you are in for a short stay in this hobby.

Bob
I switched from Spektrum to Futaba.
I set up the Spektrum with help from the video.
Here is what I'll do.
I'll Donate the first 100.00 dollars toward the radio for a vid. If Bob or HF receive enough money to purchase one, then great. (if not I want a refund)
Then maybe if bob doesn't want the radio or whatever HE or HF can have a contest and give it away.
Just a suggestion.

I will go that route and can probably get a better deal on the radio than retail. I am SO willing to do a full up video for this radio and in fact would not mind USING on my personal helis both technologies just so I know and can share the pros and cons of both systems!
J Anderson, if your willing to rally the troops count me in. Might be better to do it in another more seen forum. Not sure which though.

By the way, I learned to do my first setup on a DX7 using Bob's video. Now that I switched to the 10C it was pretty easy to program since the concepts are the same, just slight differences on inputs. The video would sure be helpful, but it also seems like that if your buying this level of radio or above you should probably be a little more advanced in the hobby and it would seem would then have the skills to setup. Maybe I'm just one of those "techy" kind of guys.

Bob is trying to get some help from Futaba on getting a radio, or maybe a good discount. When he finds that, we can all send the money. Bob just doesn't want to collect a bunch of money and return it if things don't work out.

Ok, just send me the PM 'k ?
If I'm lucky it'll happen right before I get my 10C, and not after it takes me 10 hours to set up everything, just to find out with the video it would have taken less then 1 :P course that those last 9 hours-headach would have been usefull in case something happened to the LCD that would make reading it impossible: I would have memorised everything (thinks back to some 9303 experience)

I dunno how this effort is going. But in the next month or so I plan to buy a DX7 as well as a 10C. I will not be using the 10C for a few months after purchasing and would be willing to "LOAN" it to Finless for the production of this video if that would help things along.
Heck, with a little bit of luck maybe he'll even program it up for one of the Helis I'll be picking up soon.;)
