I brought the “Hurricane 550 CFS kit only” from Grand RC so, I’m not sure what the gear setup is. I added to that the Z20 980kw motor, 14T pinion gear, Gaui 50A ESC, 4.7 NiCad receiver battery (Futaba, 6ex) 401 gyro, JR servos, and 2X 11.1 v 2500 mah Evo batteries, and 500mm blades.
On my initial spool up I had a 1 to 1 vibe, so I removed the blades and rebalanced them. On my second try the vibe was 1 to 3. I removed those blades and replace them with a new set which was also balanced. The vibe is still there and very noticeable. Then I spooled up without blades. During that, I heard the tail belt hitting against the boom, (would that cause the bad vibe?) and I also notice another thing. At 100% throttle the motor seems very slow. I’m very surprise to be able to bring it so high without blades installed. When I compare it to my Trex 450 Align 430L motor (blades not installed) I cannot pass 50% throttle because it whines, and because there is no load it doesn’t feel safe to push it any higher. That is not so with the Z20 motor. The RPM of the motor doesn’t change much pass 50% throttle.

what tc are you running? did you set the tail belt tension, it sounds to loose if its slapping which could be your vib... also did u track ur blades?

What is TC ? I could not track the blades because the vibe is too bad (it wobbled so much that the heli almost fell over.)

If you spun it up with severly out of balance blades, yoy may have bent the main shaft. I find the H550 main shafts to be VERY soft.

Also, did you balance the tail blades?

TC = Throttle Curve.....if your tc is too low it won't rev up

check your main shaft ....sounds like its bent

I think you are right about the shaft. I just found out that the rear main gear is bent, because it has a slight vertical movement. Also my swashplate has a horizontal movement which moves in sync with the main gear.
Is there hop up for the shaft?

If you are using the hollow shaft you could always change back to the solid shaft

My TC is standard 0,25,50,75,100.

have you checked your blade tension? i like to set mine where if you hold the heli sideways they dont fall and if you shake while its sideways they bearly fall... in other words pretty tight

tighten the belt.. tighten the blades.. and out of curiosity, you do have the lipo's connected in series and not parallel right?

From the two sets of batteries I have all leads converge to one Deans connector. Both red wires are soldered to the + side and both black wires are soldered to the - side.

The red from batt#1 should go to the esc, black #1 to red #2, and black #2 to esc, that gives you 22.2v. If I understand what you said, you are only running 11.1v but twice the amp capacity.

Do you have a picture of your connectors so I can see.

This is how I do it.

look at the above connectors

that explains why you didn't have much power.. you only had 11.1 volts in parallel (3s2p) instead of 22.2v in series (6s1p) that's required.

This is how I do it.

is that bare metal I see in the center connection? if so, please cover it with some heat shrink or something, that CF frame is conductive.

Good point. I have had heat shrink on it, but I keep pulling it off when I unplug. I have to come up with a way to keep it on.

Also that throttle curve is WAY too low. I run 0 - 65 - 80 - 90 - 100 in normal, and 100 - 95 - 90 - 95 - 100 in idle up.

50 at mid stick, especially running half the voltage is going to give you NO headspeed.

Two more questions. How do you balance the tail blades, and with the gaui only having two adjustable links, where do you make adjustment for for tracking?

mysticmead

well... you balance the tail blades like any other blade.. either with a balancer or by bolting them together.

and you answered your other question.. there are only 2 adjustable links.. that's where you adjust for tracking.

with your tail you can seperate the tail case slip the shaft complete with hubs grips blades etc stick the shaft on a level glass(shot glass works well;) ) and balance the entire tail......:)

You can also replace the short fixed link with two links and a piece of 2-56 all thread to make that link adjustable, ala Finless.
