I just started building my swift. I will be using the 600+ motor and evo 4s pack. I have a 9 & 10 tooth pinion. Will one of these be ok? Or do I need to order something else, If so what size should I get?
Thanks for the help.

Hi

I have a Swift on order through my local LHS as well
According to the Century site a 13T pinion is recommended with a 4 cell pack.
That's what I intend to start off with a 4 cell pack as the prices for lipos are still not cheap

Hope this helps and have fun

Frank

The 9T will be too small - only get about a 1400 head speed at 100% ESC

The 10T will give you a flyable 1550 or so head speed...good for hover and basic forward flight training

The 11T a better 1700 head speed - good FFF and sport aerobatics

The 12T about a 1820 head speed - Good for FFF and sport 3D

The 13T a hot 3D head speed for some pretty extreme 3D (but short 4 minute flights)

Of course the higher you gear for head speed, the less flight time you will get and the hotter will be the battery.

I am sure Century recommend the 13T as that is where it gets its hottest performance, like that demanded by their hot demo pilots - If you want more sedate and practical flights and flight times, just gear it according to the numbers above.

Thanks for the info rav 50 & Frank. Sorry it took so long to get back to the thread. I was sent out of town for work. I think I will get a 12&13 pinion.

I'm using 10t pinion with 5s packs, and it's barely enough to do stationary flips. (with 9t on 5s packs, headspeed is so low that the tail does not hold).
I think that you'll need a minimum of 11t or better 12t pinon for 4s use.
I also have a 6s pack which I use with the 10t pinion, it becomes a monster with 2300 rtpm headspeed :) I throttle it back using idle1 curve beause it is scary.

Good numbers - same as my findings.

Ditto for your flying styles for each.

Frank

Have you got your Swift yet?

I have a electron 80 speed controller and not sure about the red wire. The instructions says there is not a bec. I am going to use a sperate battery for the flight pack. So do I need to remove the red wire? If yes what is the red wire for? Thanks

More than likely it is not connected in the controller. For safety I would slide it out of the connector and tape it off so it will not make any contact. You will be ok with out it.

Here's some information I copied from a posted and saved on the 600 motor and pinions:

>Something I really like about the Swift/600+ motor combination is its' versatility. With just a change in >pinion it can be set up from mild (low rotor speeds and longer flight times) to wild (higher rotor speeds and >shorter flight times.

>Here are some examples:

>4 cell 3.7V/20C/3700 pack:

>10T - mild scale type flight (up to 10 minute flights),
>11T good sport training flights,
>12T - good sport aerobatics,
>13T - good 3D,
>14T - better 3D (only 3.5 to 4 minute flights).

>5 cell 3.7V/20C/3700 pack:

>9T - good training & sport flying,
>10T - good sport aerobatic and milder 3D,
>11T - very good 3D,
>12T - more extreme 3D

>6 cell 3.7V/20C/3700 pack:

>9T - very good 3D,
>10T - extreme 3D

>(NOTE: on all of the above, the higher the tooth count, the less the flying time)

I'm using a 9T pinion with 5S 3700 packs for scale flying, Augusta 109 fuselage.

It is Finally done. Thanks to all that helped with my questions.

Looks great - what pinion and battery did you use?

For now I went with a 13 tooth and 4 cell battery. I am getting 5 min. flights. No 3d yet. I am still new to helis.
