So I install the servo, go to tune it up and get it all ready to fly and the LAST step of the process is to screw down the servo arm, so I look in the box and bag of provided parts and anyone want to guess what's missing? The flipping SCREW to hold down the servo arm!!! And of course this is a metal gear unit so just any normal servo screw won't work, and lord only knows what size this daXned thing is.

:arggg::arggg::arggg::arggg::arggg::arggg::arggg:

SO I FINALLY get my 550 rebuilt and then this, I'm so flipping frustrated and T-'ed off right now.

Allerc.com is going to send me one out, but they wouldn't say how fast nor when I can expect the screw to arrive. There goes another flipping few days.:hammer:hammer:hammer:mad::mad::mad:

I guess I could REMOVE the newly installed and configured servo until the screw arrives but you know, I'm pretty tired of all this right now; perhaps it's time to take a break as it's been one set back after another. And I had the Park to myself to fly today too, no Soccer camp classes, beautiful day out there with minimal wind and one flipping missing screw and I'm shut down again.

Venting Off. Anyone know what sized that screw is or how I could find out? Maybe I could get a replacement but I'm sure it would have to come from a LHS since it's no doubt metric. I tried all the screws I had available, looked like it might be a 2.5 mm but not a fine thread; hard to say...

a local hobby shop might be able to help you out

Yeah, maybe take the bird up to the LHS and try out all the screws until we find one that fits. HASSLE!!!! But maybe it would work out...

Allerc has already contacted me, they're sending out the screw Priority USPS so it's likely to arrive in two days. Good service so far from them and the servo is FAST!!!! Well at least on the GROUND it moves fast. ;)

Happy Flying, for those of you that CAN fly right now.

I couldn't wait, this rebuild has been hanging over my head for too long now so I went to my LHS and found a screw that 'works,' not perfect but close enough for now. It's a 2.6 by 6 mm, I didn't even know they MADE 2.5 and 2.6 specific screws but apparently they do. So I Loctited the heck out of it, tightened it up and put some Shoe-Goo on top of the whole assembly for safety's sake.

Oh, at the LHS and they TOTALLY DISS'ed my Gaui by the way, again, none of them have ever flown one but they all weren't fans based on what they've heard about them... And this was the LHS that has a better reputation and not the shop that's got younger guys at the counter. Schmucks, let alone they 1) did this in FRONT of everyone in the shop and 2) I'd just dropped $60 in their store (and lord only knows how much I've spent there over the last few months, I don't even want to know!). Too funny, really makes me want to stop in there again SOON; I was going to place a few orders thru them but I think I'll pass and use them only when I really have too...:thumbdown::thumbdown:

So I took the Hurricane out, checked her over once again, fired her up and did a little flying. I just HAD to know it was working if you know what I mean... I need to do some more tweaking but I flew, two packs and didn't CRASH for a change but I was shaking and sweating pretty good by the end of it, phew. Time for some sim' work... :whip:whip:whip

have the guys at the LHS go to justinchi.com and check out what a hurri can do in the hands of an incredibly talented kid.. a lot of people out there think if it's not Align it's crap.. their loss on missing out on a lot of great heli's.. the rest that have never tried a hurri and think it's crap all base that opinion off of finless and his EARLY hurri that was...well... crap. not the improved versions that hold up very well.

Too bad about the neanderthals at the LHS. Man, I got people lined up to fly my 550.:)

Of course I figured out all the weak points by trial and error first.:Bang

Isn't it funny how people will bag your heli because it's not what 'they' would choose to buy.
I remember getting some strange looks from people at the field when I first arrived with the Hurricane

But now after everyone has seen how she fly's not a day at the field goes by without our club secretary referring newbies over to my table saying "Go check out Simon's Hurricane, is a fabulous heli to start of on"

Just tell the LHS to stick it in their collective rings :nanabobo

I can second that... some have a strange way of thinking. I wouldn't say a bad word about a heli as long as I haven't owned it and made my own experience.
Anyway, nice to hear that your's is up again! Let us know after a few flights what you think about these servos! I'm replacing mine right now, ordered a set of BLS451 and 251, but they'll get a new home in my Logo 500 as soon as I get it. I'm searching for some not too expensive ones for my hurri!

Yep - it's a very quick way of losing respect and customers. I also find that the "if it's not Align, it's a POS" approach actually puts me off owning Align helis

Owning a TREX450 did that for me. They're great for a while and then the issues start to crop up. It's a good heli but definitely has some issues which turned me off to buying another.. this time around.

Yeah, no joke; if it's not a helo they sell they're coping an attitude DESPITE the fact we're still in there buying stuff from them, I was ordering parts thru them that they get a margin on that I could just have well had sent to my office/home, etc, etc. WTF? Not good enough if it's not a major brand they're carrying, ridiculous...:thumbdown::thumbdown:

Just got back from a mid-day fly; man, I'm loosing my confidence. It's quite windy out there but come ON already! I have two things have changed, the tail servo and after my wreck I had to move the position of the balls on my flybar rail, I moved them out as I thought this was the direction to make it more docile but I'm beginning to think maybe that's not the case? I don't know, but she's might twitchy.

Plus my runtimes seem to be down, I think that Atlas servo is sucking some juice as that's the only logical explanation but again, I'll still working out the bugs from the last wreck. It's been so windy I can't tell if I'm dialed in level and everythings straight or something else is screwy if you know what I mean... :dontknow

So the big section of the Park opens up, I head on over there, get ready to fire her up and my Align 75 ESC resets itself!!?!?! It just all the sudden entered programming mode; I initially didn't catch it and by the time I realized it I'd missed my time to put in my settings. Off with the blades, re-enter programming mode, re-program, shut down, test the settings took, re-install the blades and I'm ready to go; and there went 15 minutes of flying time. ARRGHGH!!! I've never had an Align ESC do this before and it was odd, no rhyme or reason for it since I'd just finished flying a minute ago... :arggg::arggg:

Also had my Protek batteries give their first BURP; my HR Poly alarm will go off if the voltage drops and I've found on my T-Rex 450 that if you do a punch up and there's a high drain on the batteries it will set off the alarm and sure enough this is what happened. I didn't expect it on my Proteks but with some extremely LIGHT flying I did a punch up and the alarm went off; since my runtimes are down and I wasn't sure how long I'd flown I set the bird down, looked at my clock to see 4:32 and couldn't believe it. There was still juice left in the batteries but I guess the lower C rating and high draw via the Gaui Super-Pig H-18 motor did me in.

Overall I REALLY need to buy Phoenix and put in some serious time on it; Clearview just sucks in comparison to reality and I think it's screwing me up more than it's helping. For hover practice it's fine, the airplanes seem ok (but not great), but the Helo 'models' are just not correct; they don't fly right. Put the Raptor 60 into a 85-90% stall turn bank on full throttle and not only does it stay there for quite a few laps but it also CLIMBS; magic!

I'm flying but not very well, frustrated and just generally not happy with the state of all things RC at the moment. Sorry for the novel but there you have it.

Hope you all are flying well...

UPDATE:

Ok, I've been flying the DS20-GMD for a week now and I have to say I'm impressed. Even throwing the helo into a horribly uncoordinated Figure 8 and me ham-fisting the tail into line under VERY high G loading the GMD performs VERY well. Solid, strong and talk about QUICK, WOW!

For $39 they really can't be beat, at least to my knowledge. We'll see how long it lasts but there are believers on the RC forums that have been flying them for years with no problems. I will be buying Atlas-Hyperion Servos again.

OH, and Allerc sent out the missing screw PRIORITY and I got it in two days. The shipping cost 200% more then value of the screw, but they knew I needed it so THUMBS UP to Allerc.com!

Happy Flying!
