My beautifully-flying L500 went in this morning. A weird crash, which took out the head and bent the tail, but appears to have left most everything else intact. New kit on order already...

It was a really weird crash. I was doing a high banking left turn, and suddenly the tail spun about 170 degrees left, but it stayed pitched with the rotor top toward me. I got the tail under control, but couldn't level it out consistently - almost like I had no aileron authority, and I couldn't get the tail back where I wanted either.

I can't figure a mechanical failure which would account for both, and the damage so far appears to be all post-impact that I can see.

Given my other weird tail problem about a week ago, where in flight, it almost acted like the V-Bar reinitialized in flight and required holding rudder left to land it with no piro, but that one caused no crash.

Well, at least it was a "gentle" crash ;) Skids didn't even bust the nylon bolts...

Well if you feel it was a vbar issue you should send it in for a look before re mounting, that's for sure, all imho of course, not worth putting in another over. ;)

Bad luck John - so annoying when the inexplicable events wipes out a well ordered heli ! Phasing pins couldn't have come out the washout block could they ? - I had something similar on a T600N

This one's flybarless, so no pins or washout. The... (can't remember the part name) that clamps on the mainshaft to keep the swash aligned is still tight, and aligned properly.

Trying to remember exactly what happened, it was almost like holding both sticks left, I could keep it in the current attitude (tail mostly left, and tilted towards me at about 70-80 degrees), but couldn't change it. I still had collective, so I set it down as kindly as I could. Just weird.

I've contacted Aero Model to see what they can do with my V-Bar and gyro package...

Again, thanks all!
