I have a HDX500 SE V1 with a 94T pinion and would like to upgrade to a main gear with 130T (or 140T) without buying a new heli ! . What do I have to buy ?

- A new frame set ( HDX500-17BLK)
- A new main gear ( MH-MG13006 or MH-MG14006
- A new battery tray (which one ?)
- A new motor / pinion to keep the same speed of around 2600trMn

Is that enough or do we have to change additional pieces ? (if so which ones ?)

Thank a lot

The 130T gear will fit the V1 frame with a little dremil work.

I was thinking of buying the parts separately too. But I decided to buy the HDX500 SAH kit from helidirect for $199 plus the V2 frames and the bigger main gear. Now I have the frames that will fit the 130 & 140 tooth gear plus all the frame parts and lots of extra spares for my next crash.

We've done the 130T conversion on the V1 by careful dremeling . It worked beautifully .But you will have to change to 6S lipos if you retain the 850KV standard motor .( else you need a 36T pinion which is a no no ) Going to 6S you will be limited to the size of lipo that can be accommodated in the V1 battery tray . The best we could do was an Outrage 6S 3300 whch just fits , when you remove the two square battery tray plates . Smaller lipos such as 6S 3000 or 2500 will fit
WE then decided to go for the Scorpion 1210 KV and went the whole hog . Bought the new V2 frames , battery tray , anti rotation frame ,the boom tail servo mounts , the two side frame strips of the SAH and the 140T gear
Scorpion 1210 uses 14T pinion on 130T maingear and 15T pinion on 140T on 6S
850KV motor on 4S will use 20T or 22T on 130T main gear

Oh , the upgrading t the V2 rotorhead anf Trex flybar cage and paddles is a must in my opinion.
This hybrid HDX500 rocks!

Thanks for the feedback Lotus 7.

I'm still a bit of a novice so I don't need an insanely fast head speed or outstanding performance. I'm more after stability and longer flight time. I was hoping to run a 1050kv motor with the 130T main gear on a 4S 3700mAh lipo (outrage XP). I have a range of pinions from 16T to 24T. Do you think I'll have any success with this setup? I'm sick and tired of stripping main gears on the stock 94T main.

- Can we keep the V1 frame:
- "dremel" the opening by 9mm on each side, move the motor by 9mm (according to Lotus 7)
- Buy a 1000Kv motor from Scorpion
- Put a 24 pinion
- Put a 130 main gear
- Stay on 4S

It's around 3000 rpm / 2450 rpm @ 16.8V - 14.0V
It should give plenty of power and solve the main gear stripping for less than $100

Heli Paramedic - I am running a V2 HDX 500 with a 130t main gear, Scorpion 1210kv Motor, and a 20T pinion - 22t was a little high HS - works VERY well - all gear is cool after 8 mins of sport flying!! My Lipo is an Outrage 4S 3700mah.

Here is a picture of our dremeled V1 frame with the 130T maingear = you can see how we have widened the main gear slot. Worked very well if you want to stay 4S

I agree with Bloogyct , get the Scorpion 1210KV with a 20T pinion, not the 1000KV

don't bother with the Scorpion 1000kv, I have one and the stock motor is better then the scorpion on 4s! i did not try the 130 main gear but I tried several pinions with the stock 94t gear.
