Hey guys, I'm sure this is an age old question by now, but I couldn't find a thread on it for some reason. I'm on the hunt for a T-Rex 450 and am contemplating either the Spektrum DX7 or the Futaba 7C. Is there really a big performance difference or is it just personal preference?

I got the 7c.. just to be different..
I don't think they are too different from each other in ability.. alot of the pro's use the dx7.. so it's gotta be good enough
the only problem i have i think is the cost of the receivers.. 99 $us whereas the spektrum ones are 50 $us up. And the new spektrum receiver can handle the 8 volt setups..
So to sum up i reckon get what your comfortable with, the 7c is fine for the 450 was cheaper, but as i've added to my collection the receivers have cost more. The Spektrum Dx7 is probably more common, used by pro's and not pro's alike.
trev.

I think it's one of those "BMW, Audi or Mercedes" discuscions (if you get that in the US?).
It's just down to preference, only thing, the dx7 has a bigger display....

Spektrum has more selection of Rxes (6 channel park flyer, 6 channel full range, 7 channel full range, 9 channel full range, 7 channel heli with built in regulator, 7 channel heli with built in regualtor and limiter, 9 channel with super power handling capacity, 12 channel, super light 6 channel, upcomgin 5 channel full range), and the Rxes tend to be cheaper (as low as $41 for AR6100s).

That means one extra Rx and you are even, and every one after that is a serious savings. And how many people have ONE model? I have 5 helis flying, and at least 8 planks pretty much ready to fly. So my savings is around $1000 (I have something like 20 Rxes).
As for light, lighter than 2 grams? http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/TechnicalSpecs.aspx?ProdID=SPMAR6300
And AR6100s for things like Trex 450s are only 3.5 grams.
And IMO, the lower end Futabas are like driving a VW or Hyundai. :) The higher end stuff IS nice though.

Sorry, I won't insult our 3 M cars with that statement. :)

"So what do you drive? A Kia? "
No.
A PT Cruiser, a Lexus 350, and, until a few years ago, a 1940 Ford Fordor Sedan Deluxe (eventually again soon, hopefully).
The Ford, with its ancient suspension, rides better than the BMW SUV I test drove about a year ago (the ride in the BMW was barbaric-but it did handle a lot better :D) .

1) It was an SUV.
2) 40s cars have very soft suspensions, for comfort, not performance.
That said, a TC Kline suspension on the non-SUV BMWs incproves both ride and performance, or can GREATLY increase the performance at expense of the ride.
And I like doing about 143 entering the braking zone for Turn 1 at Summit Point.

Everything is expencive here....
I had a Audi S4 earlier, registred as a 2-seater, when i got kids and needed more seats, i had to sell it, because it would cost me nearly 20.000,-US$ to be allowed to use the back-seats :(

Terry,
I hope I did not offend you with the BMW comment.
We all like different things-BMW is just not my proverbial "cup of tea".
Interesting that we digressed from the Futaba vs. JR subject (the issue of the thread).
I used to be a Futaba guy, back in the 1980's, then saw/flew JR and converted.
Both are very good, I have flown my Spektrum in the presence of Futaba and neither seemed to bother the other. Each one claims to be vastly superior to the other. Both have had some problems. Both have worked out the problems (although the question of heat and Futaba radios is still ongoing).
I like, and will stay with JR/Spektrum equipment.

Not at all, just having a bit of fun.
And actually, I rag on the typical BMW owner more than you do, most likely. :) Most of them only want the blue/white Roundel as a status symbol.
We actually only own M version BMWs. And M cars are a LOT different than the non-M versions. Most of the parts are different, even if the cars look the same. In the M3 world, even body panels are interchangeable.
