View Full Version : Want a golf cart for IRCHA?
Hey folks,
In trying to secure a golf cart for IRCHA I found out that many places are sold out, including Mark Fadely. However, Clayk and I have arranged golf carts if people need them.
Generally places like Indiana Golf Car charge for the pickup and delivery, so... I am having golf carts delivered on Friday, August 8th... the more people we get the cheaper the delivery will be.
So if you want a cart just let me know (if you don't need it on the 8th that's not a problem we can keep it for you until you arrive)
The cost for the cart is $150 and right now delivery will at most be $30, but the more people we get the cheaper delivery will be.
PM me if interested.

But seriously - just how big is it?
Unfortunately I can't just "come by" as I live in far away land ... :)

Peter. I attended last year and plan to attend again this year, picture a normal fun fly event with say 5 or 6 flight stations, this sounds about the norm for the events we attend, now stand at the very first flight station and look down the flight line to see about 14 flight station spread out on the property, does this put it in perspective  it's HUGE and a very long walk from one end to the other if you want to browse the vendor tents.

Well to put it in metric terms. <G>
Flightline length from one end to the other 0,9 Kilometer
Flight stations along the flight line every 60 meters with about 16-18 flight stations total.
Vendors and manufactuers from all parts of the World are in attendance.
Here is a map of the site where the Jamboree is held. It is held on Site 4 at the south end of the map. The whole Jamboree is spread out along that road from where the road curves on one end till it curves on the other. There will be several hundred vehicles parked along that road. And many caravans will be on the site also.

What do you do with the cart when your staying in a motel? I would hate to rent one and have it stolen over night. How do you secure them at night?

You take the key out of it and take it with you. Just leave it parked anywhere. Anyone that is going to steal a golf cart at the Jamboree will have a hard time deciding which one to steal. <G> There will only be like 250 golf carts there.

To be quite honest, you can walk if you want. However, consider the following:
Flight line is over a half mile long.
Showers are about 3/4 of a mile away.
Flight stations in front of your EZ-UP are typically packed, depending on how close you are to center stage. If you choose to set up at the ends where flight stations are less crowded, you will have a long walk to bathrooms, food, vendors and center stage for prizes and demos. If you choose to put up near center stage, you will have a long walk to get to a flight station. You are free to lug all your flight gear to a flight station and camp it, but you will be in a rotation to get up in the air. FYI, Muncie in August can be hot and unless you like skin cancer, I doubt you will be hanging out on the flight line for more than 30 minutes. Hot to me is 95 degrees F or hotter with a heck of a lot of humidity.
If you happen to be one of the few that has a disability (I have severe back problems, hopefully I will have another procedure prior to the event) walking can be difficult for just about anything. Everyone I know that doesn't have a golf cart each year, wants one. Maybe IRCHA should have people that drive carts around all day to take people to flight stations, oh wait, they do. At least that part is taken care of..... Let me know how that walking goes up and down the flight line from vendor to vendor or just to shoot the breeze with pilots, I'll be driving (hopefully). :Bang
From this thread (http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=84504&page=2).
To put things in perspective, from the PDF that David linked, the event takes place at site #4. See the runway just south of the site? Ok, take that runway and overlay it in front of site #4 parallel with the road, you should get some "concept" of what we are talking about. Put it this way, last year there was 575 registered pilots by the end of day 1. When it was all said and done, there were over 700 pilots. That's just pilots, that doesn't include vendors, people just visiting, spectators, news crews, etc. In fact, I'd feel pretty confident saying there was easily over 1,000 people there on Friday or Saturday.
Now that you have an idea of how big the event is in both space and numbers of people, imagine those people trying to get flight time in about 18 flight stations. As you can imagine, there sometimes is a wait (depending on flight station). The flight stations on the ends typically have less of a wait or no wait at all. Now, if you are positioned near the center (where almost all the action takes place) and you want to fly, you will have to lug all your gear or get driven down to a flight station near the ends.
By the way, I linked a picture I edited from David's PDF to give an idea. If that's not good enough, check out last year's photos (http://www.clayklemm.com/IRCHA_2007/). I'll probably be taking a few this year as well....

Also to get some idea watch the Dog's IRCHA 2007 teaser. We ride the golf cart almost the entire "used" flight line.

Try some of the motels in Anderson. It is about 25-30 mins from the field. It only takes about 5 more minutes from Anderson than the motels out on McGalliard in Muncie.
