I had a crash the other day.... nothing serious, just the tail boom and the main blades. I did find the time yesterday to install the new parts, but I found out that the right body retainer (part no. 204558 Body Retainers Pack, http://www.readyheli.com/204558_Body_Retainers_Pack_Gaui_Hurricane_550_p/204558.htm )
was broken too. The problem is that it is broken from its root and there is no way to catch it with anything and unscrew it to get it out and install the new one

I have two pics, but not too clear.

Any idea ?

Thanks

Nick

use a small drill and drill it out

Nick,

I know EXACTLY how to get this out (just don't ask why - done it twice :oops:) - what I did is to push a small screwdriver against the top of the broken bit (from the outside of the frame), now screw the screwdriver onto the broken bit as if you were screwing it in - you need to give it a bit of pressure. After a few moments you will have screwed the bit of thread out far enough to grab hold of it with a pair of pliers and un-screw it towards the middle of the heli.

BUT make sure that you keep your fingers out of the way (behind the heli) or you could do this with your screwdriver .....

Ouch! that looks painful:shock:

I have broken heaps of the retainers also. I just use a small drill and start drilling from outside to inside, & the retainer always starts to screw itself in towards the centre of the frame. After a few crashes I've found that there is no more thread left in the frame to screw into so I use a little CA on the thread and push it in - It holds fine.

Cheers
Graeme

I will give it a try guys this afternoon, and I will let you know

Maybe Gaui should consider this as a problem, and create a new spare with less effort to install

That would be too practical :)

Someone else also suggested that you could keep the other broken part (body retainer), then drill and tap a 2 mm hole, then screw a 2mm (with a bigger size washer on the screw size) to attach the retainer to the body. Works much better that way.

The trex 600 plastic retainers workthat way.....I used them on the cf frame.....had to cut them down and drill hole for screw but it works nice and the tip fits the grommet better. I figure it will snap first before the carbon fiber....
