Futaba has posted a software update for the 14MZ over on the Flyers Club web site: http://www.14mz.com/forum/ (you must be a registered radio owner to access this site.) The update is in the Downloads area; when installed, brings radio up to the following version:

WindowsCE Ver. 4.20 (0)
Editor Ver. 1.0.5
Encoder Ver. 1.13

There hasn't been an official announcement yet, it just showed-up on their site yesterday.

How do non-US owners of the 14MZ get their updates?

How do non-US owners of the 14MZ get their updates?

Probably have to contact the European distributor. The Flyers Club site is run by Hobbico for US customers.

I believe that the Robbe site had something posted.

BTW - I installed mine yesterday and put several flights on a heli and a 2.6 meter gasser. No problems. None before either.

When I bought my first radio, there was a piece of paper to enroll in the Futaba Flyers Club. I also sent in the registration card. Several months later I received an email announcing the Flyers Club web forum and instructions on how to login. I'm guessing the registration occurred as part of the Flyers Club stuff, which later was idenfied as being run by the Hobbico folks in the US. You may want to go post over at the Futaba support area (also Hobbico run) in RCUniverse for additional information: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_125/tt.htm

@hsb
Downloaded the file and updated. Thank you!

Noticed two of the files are named 12mz-something. Strange! Wonder if it is called 12MZ internally at Futaba or if it really is an 12MZ on its way to market and that the updated-executionals are the same for both?

The 14MZ was originally a 12 channel. I saw pictures of the new radio a couple of years ago. At that time it was a 12 channel. Futaba decided to make it a 14 channel less than a year before it was released for sale. That is why there would be 12 MZ designations in the software coding. The new radio was in development for 3-4 years before it was released.

Does anyone know what issues this update is supposed to address?
I wasn't arare of anything that needed fixing.
I just hate to fix it if it aint broke.
Is there a way to go back to the old version if the "FIX" broke something else?

Here's the release notes made for Robbe patch release a short while ago: http://www.rcfan.com/files/robbe_14mz_July_patch.pdf

That's all the info I've been able to get (note the Robbe patch is a a slightly different version number). The biggest feature I've noticed is that radio no longer forces a power-cycle during frequency/model changes.

Anyone know how long it takes to get your account on the 14Mz club?

Well I sent in the card and never received anything. Bought the radio back in January. I have e-mailed them but still have gotten NO response. Futaba at its finest.

I do LOVE the radio !!!!!!!!!!!

I sure wish that they had a link to regester for the flyers club online.
I am not sure who to contact to even get there.
I did send in my card and got the shirt and an empty 3-ring binder with no other paperwork.

I read the .doc in there and it details the changes that the upgrade will make.
One of the changes is in the hardware settings, it lets you ADD histerisis to the sticks.
For what pourpose would you want to ADD histerisis to the controls??? :dontknow
I thought that a big part of what made the radio feel so good in the air was the lack of histerisis. :dontknow

I also read the doc from the Robie site, that version adds german to the radio.

Hey Jeff,
Google futaba flyers club it should get you there. It is like all the other sites where you register and they send you a password to log in. Not much on the site other than a few downloads and some forum where people grip. Hope this helps.

Send an email directly to the support folks at hobbyservices@hobbico.com. Registration is supposed to be via the Flyers Club form that came bundled with the radio, which you've already submitted since you got the shirt and binder. I still have neither, but was registered, go figure. :( If that doesn't help, try their main support site over at RCUniverse: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/forumid_125/tt.htm

Remember the radio is meant to be used for more than just helis. Hysteresis might be needed in some other application, may not even related to flying planes/gliders/helis.

Hey Jeff,
If you have an account on RR just pm a guy named Cory, he uses the name floater on there. He was the one that got my password for me. All he needs is the serial number of the radio. Hope this helps.

Found this over at the FFC site (see quote). I've mucked around with Condition copies after the update and haven't stumbled on this problem. Glad to know Hobbico/Futaba are on top of things!

Post subject: 14 MZ Software Pulled

We have temporarily suspended the ability of anyone to download the Futaba 14MZ update software.

A minor difficulty has been discovered in the latest update release for the 14MZ software. This difficulty only affects the "Copy" function in the "Condition" menu. When copying certain conditions, the transmitter freezes and displays an odd screen. Turning the transmitter off, then on, clears the screen and allows the transmitter to operate.

This in no way affects any model programs already stored in the transmitter and does not affect flight control in any way. Your transmitter is safe to fly.

We have been advised by Futaba, Japan that a fix for this will be available in a few days.

If you recently sent your transmitter to us to perform the update, please let us know so that we can arrange to have the new update installed.

With windows being involved I just knew that the "fix" would break something else.

Glade I have been to busy to do the update. :glasses:
