I got an Extreme with the smaller clutch and need to change Molded rubber dampeners. I got the harder dampeners, someone told me before that I need to do some modification to Fan hub to be able to make the new harder dampeners fit right. Is that true? How can I do that?

Thanks,

Have a look here http://www.miniatureaircraftusa.com/Support/Instructions/Stratus_Conversion_Instructions_R3.pdf

You have to dremel the fan so the dampners will fit.

My extreme came with the smaller clutch and I had no problem fitting the hard rubber bushings in my fan. I'm just saying... maybe you don't have to mess with the dremel. Try to fit it first.

I had to grind my fan to make them fit, only took 5 minutes to grind, 20 minutes to clean all the &$#%& aluminum filings from everywhere!
wear glasses or goggles that stuff is HOT and comes out pretty quick when the bit slings it out at 20,000 RPM...
I didn't remove the fan from the engine either, just baggied the motor and wrapped a towel over that. All filings went on the table.
You are basically going to even out the slots in the fan hub. The outside has a 'hump' about center of the slot. The inside edge of the fan hub has a longer 'hump', about 2/3 the length of the slot.
The removed material thickness is about .015, and it does not 'have' to be perfectly smooth, but it would help. It should not affect the balance of the hub greatly as it is so close to the center of the assembly.
You can use a similar bit to the one recommended too, I used a tile cutting bit for my roto-zip and took my time. Midnight is not the time to go to the hardware store ;)

X,
Look at the link Fredrik posted. It shows how to tell the differenece between the slots in the fan hubs. If the slots in your fan hub look like a dogbone. Then you will need to modify them. If the slots are basically an oval with straight sides, then you can install the harder dampeners with no problem.
Trying to put the harder dampeners in the dog bone shaped slot does not work.

Seem to be ok, I don't have to do any modification, it just slide in easy. But the Delrin ball (uni-ball) at the base of the clutch driver came off and it is very hard, but no signs of wear. Looks new to me but hard. This bird is about 2-3 gallons. What kind of glue do I need to put between this delrin ball and the shaft? Since is hard, do I need to get a new delring ball?

Thanks,

Ball is supposed to snap on. Any glue will work. It's supposed to be hard. It isn't however supposed to come off, glue or not. There is a grove at the base of the driver the ball snaps onto. The inside of the ball has a ridge that snaps into the grove. If it's gone I'd get a new ball. If there is any sign that it has melted a little I'd get a new one. Quite frankly, you'd be better off just getting a new ball :smokin:
