Nice Ian, great pics! Looks like you had a great time.

I love the dragon flies! We have a lot of them around here. Their flying is fasinating. We have one species here that gets up to 4 inches long. it's beautiful emerald green.

the octopus is cool too, but spiders give me the creeps!

Thanks bro, camera is Fuji E900, got it off ebay a year and a half ago for £98 (refurbished) its a bit quirky, the manual focus is tricky to use, widest lens angle is 32mm and the aperture runs from 2.8 to 8 .with 4X optical zoom. it does have raw proscessing and the CCD is exellent.

But then I only really point and shoot most of the time.

Thanks Jack in one pool I counted 11 species of dragonflies and damsells.

I Got that octopus from about 15 feet down and it was touch and go who got who as he was pretty eager not to come out of his hole and I was getting short of breath:).

The first octopus I saw was over 2' across, they really are incredible creatures. It first disguised itself to look like the rock it was sitting on, it's skin taking on the same texture as the algy on the rock, then when it realised it had been seen it swam off backward squirting ink at me, then when I followed it further, it reared up like a giant dismembered hand, threatening me and pulsing hypnotic waves of colour through its body and tentacles. really spectacular.

The spider is a bit scary, the grass hopper she is eating is nearly 2" long but I think
she's beautiful :YeaBaby:

Cheers

Looks like a nice vacation,Im a little jealous. Did the octupus make ya a little nervous.

Not really scared of them Tom, that's not a venemous one like the blue ringed octopus. I have caught many over the years and have never been bitten though I think they are capeable of giving a nasty bite:YeaBaby:

Living in England Menorca is one of the cheapest overseas holiday destinations, as you can see it is a beautiful island. It's largely unspoilt and actually prettier than it looks on the photo's.

I have been a few times and really enjoyed it:)

Well thats good to know. I remember watching a utube vid recently that took place at some kinda of marine wildlife facility and sharks kept coming up missing. Check it out.

The ones I catch are only about 18" across though... even they give your arm a good squeeze:)

Those pics are awsome Ian. I would like that kind of holiday myself. The spiders would scare me though:(.

Those dragonflys are soo cool... There are some big ones over here too:D They remind me of Wibble because of his avatar.

I saw a abit like the video Tom showed of a octopus eating a shark but it was soo camoflased you couldn't see anything. Then all of a sudden it appeared and grabbed the shark. It was as if it was invisible.

Thanks Jonny:thumbup:

Yeah I think I'll email him some dragonfly pics, Ive got dozens of them. He logged on again yesterday.

You would not believe how quickly an octopus can change shape texture and color they are awsome to watch in the wild, cuttle fish are pretty amazing too.

You would have to look pretty hard to find that particular species of spider and most of the others are no bigger than the ones we get here

If you sold your Trex you could afford to go there for a couple of weeks:YeaBaby: actually there are a few camp sites on the island so you could just buy the flights and take a cheapo tent:)

Are some of those spiders poisonous though?

I agree some octopuses are awsome.

Im sure wibble will love those pictures:D

On this side of the pond we call them Grasshoppers.

Bush crickets and grass hoppers are both Orthoptera

However:

Bush crickets belong to the Superfamily Tettigoniidae along with Katydids

Whereas grasshoppers and locusts belong to the superfamily Acridoidea along with locusts

What about the cicada?:thinking:whip

A cicada is a different order all together they are Bugs characterised by incomplete metamorphosis ( which orthoptera also have) and sucking mouth parts whereas orthoptera have biting mandibles. Green fly, water boatmen and shield bugs are also bugs.
