I have been using this mod since day 1 and I have been asked on how I manage to heve proper CG on the e- smart. This mod extends the battery tray forward and actually raises the longitudinal axis CG for better roll performance.
After I got my kit, I also bought an extra battery tray so I can remove the receiver tray and use the battery tray instead. I expected to do some drilling, but to my surprise, the battery tray fit without any modifications to it. I included some pics of the mod and how the battery fits inside the canopy. I hope you guys will find this helpful.

Looks like a very interesting modification indeed !
Main battery size looks as if it fits just right.
Which brand / size battery have you shown in your photos ?
Hoping its an ' Outrage XP25 6S1P 22.2V 5000mAH.'
Would be great if it is. :-)

Sorry for the delay in answer...out of town thing...Yes, it the outrage 6S-5000 pack. CG is spot on in this configuration with a 1500mAh receiver pack(Li-Po). Also I have just crashed the E-smart again trying what I call a flare( really small diameter pirouetting inside funnel)....dumb thumbed it and it's too low to recover. It went nose in first destroyed the canopy, bent the tray but saved my 6S-5000 outrage pack(no damage at all)..tail boom in 3 pieces...bent frame panels...a total re-kit except for the TIG Z-weave blades(No damage again-2nd crash). I just finished the new re-kit with CF frame panels(saved a lot of weight) and I just finished my new FG canopy. It's ready for it's maiden again tomorrow. Will take pics later.

That is the coolest thing ever, I never worried about CG before, but with that mod, I'll def be giving it a try, I have a slightly bent battery tray right here, sweet, great tip, many thanks

I am just building my 600 and I hope I am not way off. I put my zippy 5000 underneath just forward of the main shaft and with all the other electronics in the back (with the exception of the receiver) it feels almost right on without the canopy. If I move my battery that far forward I would think I would be nose heavy.

thats the way I have mine, I tried the battery tray mod but for myself it didn't work too well, my batteries hit the canopy so I just keep them underneath

I did put the canopy on last night and it did nothing for my CG I did have to pull the battery forward about 2 inches. It is still not as far forward is this mod but it does leave almost ½ the battery unsupported. I can put a strap under the battery to the radio tray but I am not sure that is going to be enough to save the battery from getting damaged in a crash or a hard landing. :dontknow

As it is I just keep my battery in the normal spot, its encased in a small sleeve, but just short of catostrophic crashes it should be protected, even my last crash where it plowed nose first into the ground, my battery still survived, luckily
