did it come off completely?

LITHIUMSTATIC

no... has a 1mm gap

hmmm what motor? Mine was like .05MM gap (could see light) i have put it back together with loctite but have not flown it.
Pretty dispointing when it happened on 2 pinions and only 4 flights on each!

Tango 45-07.... I'm not surprised by this at all. It's normal for the none welded ones to do this crap.

oh so it is laser welded? Hmmm thats interesting

laser welded ones can not seperate, it is impossible actually as the sleeve itself is welded to the HB material itself.

My suggestion to those replacing or buying pinions is to specifically request your vendor looks at the pinion and does indeed send you a laser welded pinion. Mikado recognized this issue and addressed in in changing the process in which they made the pinions. The difference between welded and pinned is extremely obvious and could not be mistaken, imho.

I dont know why THEY re-invented the "wheel" when they had a winning formular in the standard mod 0.7 gears????

Honestly lloyd, I was not a beleiver in the HB gears, but I can tell you I am now. I have gears that have seen several crashes and flights with zero wear or showing of such events. The HB gears are strong, and quite, much much more silent running than the straight cuts. The pains with the "pinned" pinions have created some grief for several, including myself. As stated however all the new ones that are being produced are laser welded and there are zero issues with them, they are life time indeed.

I just contacted Mikado and they sent me a whole new set of laser welded pinions.... no charge!

Can't beat that for service :).

I also now use the new 12T pinion. They should make them all like the 12T!

Looks like i've just been forced to join the club

I thought mine was the newer wielded pinion, i assumed that thinking those two points sticking out were wields. Flew this morning and I was getting heli ready to go fly again and saw the Gap. Has done 135 flights. I just put some red Loctite on it and gonna go fly now, i hope its ok.

I just contacted Mikado and they sent me a whole new set of laser welded pinions.... no charge!..........
How did you contact them, email ?

Peace

Yea if you see the two, those are "pins" I had one do the same, I put in red in the crack to the sleeve and pressed together and it is still fine. As far as contacting Mikado here is email addy.

Thx OICU812.

I flew four flights this afternoon and the red Lock seems to be holding for now.

I think it might be time to hand in a request...

Could someone post some pictures of the pinned and laser-welded versions of the pinions?

I thought I did have the laser-ones, but astonishing enough, I *think* there is a gap starting to build up and the pinion looks quite similar to the one in ShuNut's pictures...

I think some picture would help us to identify whether or not the pinions are welded...

Thanks!

Cheers from switzerland,

Daniel

Easy enough. Two pinned on the left, one welded on the right.

To the danger to draw laughing attention to myself...

Please confirm, beside from not having those two nipples that can mistakenly be taken as welding spots, the most obvious difference is the whole pinion being black?

Well, that's indeed easy enough...

And off we go, buying a new main wheel and a pinion...

Cheers,

Daniel

Ok, thanks for the pic but are the 'pins' visible on both ends of the pinion? I checked my pinion installed on my heli after seeing this pic and did not see the 'pins' looking in from the bottom of the heli, which is a sigh of relief but I wonder if they are indeed on the other end. And also, repeating the same question above, are the new welded pinions only come in black? If that's the case, mine is the pinned kind as it is the same color as the two in left in the pic.

Upon browsing Mikado's site, I just found that they've included a pinion-folder in the spare-parts.

I do no more believe that the welded pinions are black.

Reason being the picture from Mikado's site, which is labelled "pinion, 15T, herringbone, mod 0,7, laser welded":
http://mikado.e-vendo.de/k_mikado/prodpic/04215_b_0.JPG

Someone please confirm this?

The distinctive marks appear to be that there is no more a groove in which the pins were installed - as can clearly be seen in John's pic - , but one flat bed which results from the welding process...
The 12T mod0,7 appears to be indeed black, but also being the only one.

Cheers,

Daniel

The picture above looks just like my welded pinion.... other than tooth count. Mine is 13

The 12tooth are black, all rest are silver as your picture shows.
