So my last crash on my 5003d, killed my 6s pack :( stupid motor pinion punctured the battery, so i was thinking today what i could use to fix this in the future but also lend the idea to others.
Ive come up with a solution that is easy cheap and will work pretty well, buying a sheed ot carbonfiber 12x12, they are about 30$ for a sheet, then cutting a piece out the same size as a battery pack, when strapping the battery in you put the cf overtop of the battery, then strap the orings over it and she should be good, so when you crash you not only kill your frame's you save the battery.
Good idea ?

you could also use the counter-bearing, FYI.

How much extra does the CB add? I think a few would have a hard time fitting the lipos in

Counter bearing will not fit in the 5003D while using the popular 6S packs, only if you use long 6S packs with the CB work on 500.

Thus why i thought about the cf piece over top of the battery, :p that little piece will save that 300$ battery.

How close was your lipo to the battery? Mine is about 5-10MM i was hoping in a crash the velcro and o rings would keep it in place

Hell no, the frames are weak, when the nose goes in it buckles and pressed the main battery right into the motor shaft.

My heli looked like this, however i trimmed 1/4 " off that shaft so it stuck out 1/4".

There are actually manufacturers that actually sheet the top and bottom of their lipos with CF plate, Kokam makes a pack for the Acro that is like this so it is an idea that has been out there and works if you like to do this.

Your bird wasn't tail heavy with the battery that far back? I run the same packs and the back of the battery doesn't quite reach even with the pinion.

I hate to say it, but from that picture it looks like your heli was MADE to drill holes in packs... . . . :D
shaun, FlightPower were the orginal guys to do that, before their "evo" packs, when they were only 12c, before the world knew about them and they were hand made :)

I use a velcro strap just under where the pinion goes so if it does drill its got a few layers to go through.
Bit off topic but i just made a 50MMX300MM plastic with velcro each side to go under my 2 5S packs for the logo 600, i found as only a slight amount of the front pack was secured it basically fell out in rough flying last night, the connectors and canopy saved it.
This plate will keep them together like a 10S pack, i also now use velcro.
