Gidday guys,

i have a new stratus (kit) not conversion, and from day one it has made awful gear noises, makes the helicopter sound really lean.

first thing we found was that the main gear shaft that goes through the sprag bearing came loose, you can adjust your mesh with the tail from here as well i beleive(correct me if i am wrong)..

i then loctited that shaft on the thread, and put the heli back together, but then when i went to mesh it i had to move that dull silver coloured pinion for the tail right back about 3mm or 4mm from hiting the main gear.

but no matter what i do the tail gear is still Very tight, and when you spin the head around it sounds like crap. i pulled the boom of b4 and spun the tail round to make sure the noises weren't coming from there, but it is on that tail gear thats on the main gear...

and when you fly the heli and stick it into idle up, it sounds like its gonna blow up its a high pitch lean sound...

and i have noticed that the stratus kits don't use the brass thing or washer on top of the main gear...

Help!!

Cheers,

Sounds like you have the mesh too tight between the crown gear and the pinion.
On the Constant Drive tail unit. Can you turn the crown gear easily without turning the main gear. You will need the unit out of the heli to check this.

ok, yeah it certainly is tight all the way around, i notice the Ma don't use that brass tube or spacer any more you use the shaft that goes through the main gear to set the height of the crown gear....

it is very confusing!!!!

MA has not included the brass spacer and shim in the kits for a couple of years now. They quit put them in the Extreme kits couple of years ago and all the kits afterwards.
Here is thread that tells how to set the mesh between the crown gear and front pinion.

Read around pages 67 -68 in the assembly manual here http://www.miniatureaircraftusa.com/Support/Instructions/Stratus%20Assembly%20Manual%20Standard%20Head%20R1 .3.pdf

It would be a good idea to read before and after those pages to make sure everything is assembled right.

The manual should make it clear.

i'll give that a try how to mesh the gear under the own weight of the helicopter..

Thankyou for all your help guys!!
