Is there a 9Z for dummies book out there? I really can't seem to grasp the basics of this flight mode thing. Do you guys really like these radios or is it just the status symbol thing? I really thought I could program a radio till I got this one. Heck I think my 7U made more sense.

I don't know of any aftermarket 9Z manuals. But I have never really used the manuals that come with the 9Z either. I love my 9Z, I have been using 9Z's since 1994.
What flight mode thing are you referring to?
If your talking about the CND menu, you have have to remember. That any change you make in one flight condition has to be changed in the other flight conditions also. That is if you want the changes to be the same across all conditions. For example, if you inhibit P>R mix in Normal mode, you have to flip into Idle 1, 2, Throttle hold and inhibit in those conditions also.

So how do you go about programing a new heli. Start with normal and get everything set like you want and then copy to idle1/2 & Hold?
Ok and there are two different settings forgive me I can't remember teh name but I think it is AFR and ATV.
Near as I can tell one controls how much the servo will move with the stick (for instance) and the othe controls the maximum throws (ie the stick plus any other applicable mixes) Is that right and which one is which.

Ok While I am at it. Gryo mode.
I run a 401 so I am guessing that is useless. I created a mix with ch 5 to offset and changed the atvs in different flight modes is there a better way?

Just for laughs, what chopper is it in?
It's possible that someone will have the same radio/chopper combo and can give you settings for all instances to get you going, and you can fine tune it from there.

Wayne I have three choppers all set up and flying in my 9C. I am actually just using the 9Z to learn about programming in case anbody locally needs some help with a 9Z. I have set and flew my t-rex with it. I just think I must be doing things the hard way. :dontknow

Here is how I set up a brand new model. Don't copy someone elses program to use. To me that is just asking for trouble. Plus you will not learn how to use the radio.
New model.
1st. I turn all the conditions on and get them on the switches I want to use in the CSL menu.CSL is in the MDL section.
2nd. Once I have done that, I go to the reversing menu and get all the servos throwing the right direction.
3rd. Then I make sure that P>R is inhibited in all flight conditions.
4th. I activate Throttle Hold HLD in the CND menu.
5th. I swap the position of the Throttle and Elevator trim in the TRM menu. Those trims are cross trimmed.
Now I am ready to start putting all the servo wheels in the proper position on the servos. Also I start setting up the throttle and pitch range.
I leave all the ATV's at 100%. I use AFR to control the travel of functions.
The reason being that the neutral shifts if the ATV's are offset by a large amount.
AFR's will also not affect any mixes and will work along with them.
As for the GY 401 gyro, Inhibit the gyro program in all modes and use the Channel 5 AFR or ATV to control the gain of the gyro. No need to use a PMIX with the GY 401. I know a few pilots that use the Channel 5 ATV or AFR to control the gain on the GY 601/611. I use the Duo mode in the gyro program to control my GY 601.
Channel 4 AFR will control the pirouette rate. The 9Z seems complicated at first. When I got my first one back in late 93 early 94. I didn't get an instruction manual till I had the radio for 6 months. It was a paper copy of the manual. I got the manual that was suppose to come with the radio after I had it a year. I got one of the first 9Z's that were sold in the USA. I drove to Atlanta every weekend for about a month to learn how to use the radio from a Team Pilot that had one for about 6 months. After about 4 days of him making me program models. It was a breeze to use after that. The 9Z is a very verastile radio, if you can think of things that you might want to do. It can probably be programmed into the 9Z.

There should be a "9Z UNIVERSITY"
